• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Need Correct Link To SDK Wake Effect

I have a tutorial called "Adding Animated Wake Effects To Static Ships" by David Marshall dated June 2007. In this tutorial, David gives this link with this disclamer:
"All information in this document relating to the creation and placement of effects is readily available in the Microsoft Special Effects SDK. All available SDK’s for FS2004 may be downloaded from links at the following site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555857 ".
So I downloaded it. David mention 3 folders you should find in the SDK download:

What’s in the package?
When you unzipped the file to a temporary folder you should find the following folders and files:
A Folder named Effects - this contains three wake effect files.
A Folder named Sample XML - this contains a sample xml file which will be used as you step through the tutorial.
A Folder named Work Folder - this is where the actual creation of the resulting BGL which controls the display of the effect will be done.
Files named Wake Effects Tutorial.doc and .pdf - The tutorial which you are reading now.
Nothing like the above is found.

My question: Can someone guide me to the correct link that would contain the folders David mentioned so I can learn to create the fx_wake.fx I need?
Thank you in advance

Hi,

I think David means you will find those files in his tutorial, not in the SDK. I am not aware of a wake sample FX in the SDK.

Thank you for the reply. This morning I went to Flightsim.com and found this: weffect.zip and also w_eff_up.zip.
Now I have the complete package. I was under the imprerssion I needed the SDK from Microsoft.
Maybe you could add this to the FSDeveloper download. A shame it is for FS2004 only!
Appreciate your time and help....
