• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Need some help

Hi,

I downloaded and started using FsX Planner a few days ago. Great program, guys.....:)

Yesterday I started making some small adjustments to Rotterdam Airport (small airport so a great airport to start with).
So far I only added a taxiway for vehicles and made some adjustments to 4 parking spots.
I've used the 'clean all' option so when checking for errors there are none.

Compiling also works without any problem.

The only problem is that FSX gives a fatal error when going to EHRD.
I've included the XML as an attachment.
Could you guys check what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks.

Regards,
Fred

Guys,

Thanks for your replies. The problem is solved and I can finish the lay-out of the airport.

Just be sure: Am I supposed to exclude all the items I made changes to (so, making 1 change in a taxiway means excluding all the taxiways in the compile options).

Also downloaded version 18 so I'm all set to finish my first AFCAD made by FsXPlanner. A lot more to go. After finishing Rotterdam I'll continue with Amsterdam which is a much bigger airport with an awful lot of corrections.....

Thanks again.

Fred

I would set the delete flags to true (ie ticked) for anything that you are compiling. So if you select the option to compile taxiways, then I'd also set the option to delete taxiways. If you don't you end up adding your taxiways to the ones that are already there. This might cause interesting bugs if you end up with duplicate taxiways.

if you want to keep it simple I'd just check all the delete options for the airport data, and also check all the compile options for the airport data, and also create an exclusion rectangle covering the entire airport that excludes at least taxiway signs. You may want to add other exclusions to this if appropriate to your airport.

Of course depending on what you are doing you may want to just delete certain aspects of the airport and replace just those with your new ones, but I don't want to complicate the issue here. :)

Wasn't Amsterdam one of the 'high detail' airports within FSX? If so I would have thought it would be correct. I flew there once in FSX and it looked quite detailed. Not sure about its accuracy though!

Lee Swordy's practice of deleting all airport elements except Approachs and copying that data to the new file was a pretty good practice.

FSX gives us more elements to work with - and not everything can be controlled by the delete airports statement - i.e. TaxiwaySigns

Taxiways and Runways are closely linked. Any changes to one item mean the entire network for the airport needs to be in the new file. That includes any change to a single parking spot properties - the entire taxiway network needs to be in the new file.

For example changing a runway designation involves several elements:

1) The Runway properties
2) The Start locations
3) The TaxiwayPath for runway types
4) The Approach names
5) Runway specific waypoints
6) Taxiway Signs

One item of caution I'd warn you about - especially in complex airports like EHAM. You will find that some TaxiName segments are broken-up - i.e. two Taxiway A segments.

Don't combine them into one long Taxiway A.

MS has some kind of formula which the program reads to identify occupied taxiway segments. Making them one long Taxiway A will make the taxi network less efficient.

EHAM is a detailed airport - but it was built with data which is now two years old.

Accuracy is always in the eye of the beholder. I've seen some pretty violent arguments over the parking code for one gate at one airport.

Also - many detailed airports in FS have 'compromises on accuracy' to make them work better in FS.

It goes back to an old question we often asked about FS2004 AFCAD - do you want it ACCURATE, or do you want it to WORK ? Sometimes you cannot have both.

Guys,

Because of the tips I got from you the bgl for Rotterdam is up and running.
One more question though...
I've been trying to delete or move taxiwaysigns but I've failed.

After deleting a sign in FsXPlanner it still shows up in FSX.
Moving a sign shows both the new and the original sign so there are duplicate signs.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a functionality that is not in use in this version of FsXPlanner.

My first bgl will be uploaded to Avsim later.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

You can delete taxiway signs with FSX Planner. You have to create an exclusion rectangle and check off the exclude taxiway signs option for that rectangle.

(Taxiway signs are not deleted using delete tags.)

Oke, that makes sense to some point.
One would expect that deleting the signs in the layout would also delete them in FSX.

I'll try the exclusion rectangles, an option I hadn't noticed before, the next time.
For Rotterdam the stock signs will have to do for now. :)

Thanks for the reply.

Taxiway signs are not part of the Airport xml tag, so that's probably why MS decided to not have a delete tag for them and use an exclusion rectangle instead.
