• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

New Computer Blues...

All of them run really, REALLY well, but I have noticed that the 1080Ti does seem to have a problem handling the intense graphical demands. I need to invest some time in learning how to tweak the fan settings to keep it from screaming in agony...

The overtemp "screech" is rather annoying!

Leave your computer case open for more air and therefor mildly improved component temperatures.

The case has three fans; one for fresh air intake, one for exhaust, and another for the power supply. The CPU is water cooled and has it's own fan for the radiator.

The 1080Ti has three hi-flow fans pulling heat off the HUGE finned-radiator. The case also has a large, filtered opening on the very top of the case about 16"x6" altogether. I rather like that all air "intakes" have removable, washable filters to keep dust under control.

I am going to install "MSI Afterburner" which I used in my "old" sim machine to set custom fan profiles. I'll see how much that improves things. The "open" side of the case is fastened with four cushioned thumb screws to hold the tempered glass cover in place. What's up with this fascination with LED light strips these days anyway? I just don't see the point...:rotfl:

Thanks for the suggestion though! :)

They're to illuminate the dust particles drawn into, passing through and exiting the casing, thus giving a handy visual check on the accumulation rate of dust bunnies, fluff or lint. When you can no longer see these LEDs, your PC is considered clogged solid and it's time to buy a new rig. Surely you knew this? :stirthepo

Oh thanks! I would never have thought of that use for 'em.

I actually once was asked to repair the computer of a smoker. He had purchased the machine new, but the accumulation of cigarette residue had clogged the fans of the computer so heavily that they had not only overheated, but partially melted before grinding to a stop. Year later, I remember the heavy smell of cigarettes when working on the case, and shuddering as I wondered what his lungs must look like if his case had been destroyed that badly by them..........

Thanks. Even the silent "Cortana" was useful for quickly finding the power options. I'm perfectly capable of turning things on/off by myself. I don't need that to be automated... :stirthepo

@Tom - I had no choice in the matter since all new confusers (er, computers) come with Win10 pre-installed. That said, there are many sources to still buy certificated, original Win7 Professional (or Home) OS. I've ordered three copies to keep on hand just in case. :coffee:

Hi Bill, are you using anything like this? Shuts down the Microsoft telemetry back to the "mothership". :-)
I run it on my Win10 PC to stop as many wasted clock cycles as possible and of course try to cut the MS chains. :-)

It's free

Wow! What a difference "MSI Afterburner" makes. Previously GUP temps when running P3Dv4 were hitting 70º+ C. Now with Afterburner in control with the re-worked fan profile, GPU temperature has been lowered into the 54º to 60º C range.

Mine runs hot with V4 also. My poor ole air cooled fan. I have to keep remembering to start SpeedFan to turn on the fans to higher RPM's because Alienware went for quiet modes on fans ON A DANG GAMING COMPUTER!!! sigh...

This also restricts air flow.

Be cautious though, I've heard of freezes and driver crashes with Afterburner, depending on how well Nvidia's QC team did their job for the driver release of the month.

In all fairness, "quiet mode" does have a point as long as the temperatures are under control. On the other end of the scale, my laptop puts a TF33/JT4D to shame when gaming but stays relatively cool in turn.
