• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

New DEM data

Two German radar satellites are now flying in tight formation as they prepare to make the most detailed ever 3D map of the Earth's entire surface.

Supposed to be new DEM data set with 2m per pixel. In comparison, Shuttle-made SRTM dataset is 30m per pixel in length and ~10-12m in width. Gonna be more detailed representation of Earth's elevations developed so far...

But it will probably take a while before the data is processed and ready for use.

Hi guys,

the article states "Infoterra GmbH has exclusive rights to commercialise the data" so it's likely the data won't end up in the public domain, at least not at full resolution.

Another important factor are political considerations: a lot of countries still don't like the idea that someone scans their landscape and then distributes those data without their consent. That's why the Shuttle Radar data never were released in their full 30-m pixel resolution and instead downgraded to 90m except the coverage of the US and its offshore territories.

Cheers, Holger

Hi Folks

Approx 5 years ago
I preordered a couple of areas, (tandem hi-res spotlight),
when Infoterra were offering free targetting/data.

IIRC
The Tandem-X component was launched a year later than originally planned.
So not expecting my requested data for a couple of years yet. :D

Currently available TerraSAR-X and/or Tandem-X coverage.
