• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 New Developer Looking for Project Opportunitys

Hello Fellow Developers,

My name is Michael Johnson, and I am reaching out to express my interest in contributing to projects within the Microsoft Flight Simulator development community. As someone who is deeply passionate about MSFS and its potential, I am eager to offer my time and skills to collaborate with experienced developers in any capacity that could be helpful.

Although I am relatively new to MSFS development, I have a growing foundation in coding and technical skills (Java, Python primarily but would love to learn more of C++), coupled with a strong enthusiasm to learn and grow. My primary goal is to contribute to projects that enhance the MSFS experience for the community, whether it involves creating aircraft, implementing systems, or developing other engaging additions. I’m not seeking a paid position at this time; instead, I’m looking for an opportunity to gain invaluable experience, grow my knowledge, and build meaningful connections within this incredible community.

I want to emphasize that I am fully comfortable signing any necessary Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) to ensure the confidentiality of your work. I’m also open to taking on any project where you feel my skills and enthusiasm could make a positive impact.

If you’re looking for someone who is highly motivated, eager to learn, and excited to collaborate, I would love to hear from you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to discuss how I might be able to support your projects.

Thank you for considering my message, and I look forward to connecting with you!

Best regards,

Welcome, Michael!

I fully welcome your initiative, and I hope you find as much satisfaction in our hobby (or a profession, for some) as most of us do. If you want to dive into MSFS Development, you will find that the most useful environments to learn are what MSFS SDK supports: XML with RPN, JavaScript and C++. If you already have a knack for coding, may I suggest you dive into SDK SimConnect side of things and, for starters, simply set up Visual Studio, load up one of the SimConnect C++ examples (they are actually just C, there is no object oriented content in them) and see if you can compile and run it in MSFS environment. MSFS2020 SDK has detailed and specific instructions on how to set up Visual Studio (which, for what you will need, is free). There is nothing better than learning by example, and building up on it.

Best wishes,

Hi Misho!

Thank you so much for your insight and warm welcome! I truly appreciate you taking the time to share this advice. Diving into the MSFS SDK and exploring SimConnect with Visual Studio sounds like an excellent starting point, and I’ll definitely look into setting that up as you suggested.

Thanks again for your encouragement and guidance—it means a lot! Best wishes to you as well!

Hello Michael,
Thank you for your message and your enthusiasm to join the Microsoft Flight Simulator development community! We are always happy to welcome new members who are passionate and motivated to improve the MSFS experience.

Currently, there are several abandoned projects that could greatly benefit from the energy and talent of someone like you. For example, the project how to create Terrain Mesh in CGL format that requires developers to complete the implementation in the new MSFS 2024. This is just one of many projects that could really benefit from your participation and that in particular is very close to my heart but unfortunately beyond my ability to learn.

We welcome you to our incredible community and look forward to collaborating with you. For more details on the available projects and how you could contribute, do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards, Giovanni
