• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

New Freeware Project

Finished the last of the flatten files today. 12 hours for this group. Glad that's over with. Sometimes I wish I wasn't such a perfectionist. All that's left now is to plant some trees :)

Hi Kevin you did a great job but knowing very well the place, I've been there about 10 or 15 times since 1958, there are a few things to probably amend.

First of all, there are no lights at night on the site which closes at 7 pm and the Light and Sound has been set very recently and only in a few places. I attended it in 2009 and it is not worth seeing.

I suppose you used the sketchup model for the Palestra near the Amphitheater. Actually I'm editing my video of my 2009 and 1999 trips there. I have written a scenario inspired by Theophile Gautier's novel "Arria Marcella". Using Daz Studio and Bryce 7 plus the Sketchup models of Polsen, I intend to have a victim of the eruption resurrecting in the Palestra's corridor and gaining back its human shape and then serving as a guide in the ruins.
When I worked on the Palestra and installed the Plane trees, I discovered that the proportions of the palestra were not right .It's not a square but a rectangle so I had to add trees where there should not be on the small sides which are obviously too long, not so much - but the equivalent of 2 trees.

Also there are a few mistakes too for the Amphitheater , both monuments are on the same level; only the back of it is settled against the limit of the ruins by the main street leading to the modern town of Pompeii arriving at the Piazza where is situated the cathedral.
In fact the Amphitheater was dug into a hill bordering the town so that when you enter the central arena, you go down a slight slope into it.

There are plenty of pictures on the net and even a 360° view from the top of the Amphitheater that might help you.

Here is a preview of the Palestra as it will appear in my movie; it is not finished, I supposed there was a mosaic on the floor of the pool as it was common in those days and of course the lighting is just for test, this will not be like in the final stage.

regards
Claude
