• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Where does a guy start with SBuilder 2.05? I have never attempted any scenery design before. This all looks overwhelming. I got the program up and running. I started the Island Builder tutorial and started off swell, but when I got to the map calibration, the Sbuilder menu went one way and the pdf tutorial went the other. It was saying to make selections that don't appear on the map calibration menu. I'm using FS9 and Win XP.

MAIN QUESTION: Can someone give me a overview of how SBuilder and scenery design in general works?

I think I can figure it out, but I don't have a starting point, if there even is one. I want to fix the rivers and roads that are improperly located, and maybe correct some coastlines. I am using FS Genesis USA mesh. Where are all the tutorials for this?

You make a picture using a paint program of the desired cell, "Paint it", convert it to a .bgl and replace it in the texture file? Is this right?

It looks like there are no SBuilder tutorials besides the Island Builder. No answers here. Screw it, I'm buying Ultimate Terrain and be done with it. Too much headache.
 
I have some good tutorials. Sometimes a bit difficult to find, but they will get you started. Sokme I have are tutorials for photo background, terrain, sbuilderx walk-through.

ADE makes some of these things quite simple and helpfull.

One tutorial talks about getting Manifold toolbar. I did. My manage add-ons in IE says it is enabled, but I dont see anything to click on to use it, and no one has stepped up to help as yet.

One thing, if you are planning to do much work in an area that is covered by Ultimate Terrain, you might find it easier just to buy UT rather than trying to do it all yourself.

On avsim there is a scenery design forum with a beginner's scenery design topic, which is worth going through to get a top level understanding.

As you can see from how the forums are set up here, the three main areas of design are 3d object modeling, terrain, and airports.
