• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi,

I know this may have been posted already but i havn't been able to find a post related. I have GMax but really just have a few questions:

  • How can i create a vehicle (do i have to use all different objects etc.)
  • How can you apply a texture to an object
  • How can you export the object to flight sim

Any help & guidance would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Jayden

not few question

I feel,it is not few question.
It is a question about not the slight question but the whole of Gmax in this question.
1. Do the study which makes it indicate a mere box in FS before you make a car.
2. Next, build your house, and work to make it indicate it in FS.
3. Then, make various things freely.
4. Then, only challenge to make the your_car for some years affter.

Though I am making Scenery of the town which a castle and I are living in by using Gmax for 6, seven years.
A car gives up (a curved surface).
If it is interested 【 it is memorized 】, GmaxTutorial is read, and made, and it is suggested that it works to indicate it in FS.

Although the questions may be "few," the complete answers would require about a 150,000 word technical article!

Before you do anything, do the tutorial exercises in the GMax Help files.

Next, study the FS SDK (Software Development Kit) documents throughly.

Only after becoming comfortable with the tools in GMax, and having read the FS SDKs that cover your area(s) of interest, will your questions will begin to require fewer words to answer.

Hi!

I'm also realtively new to Gmax and it takes a while getting used to. I'll try very, very short replies below to point you in the general direction but as had been said check out tutorials, read the forums and experiment with trial and error to learn the various tools.

- How can i create a vehicle (do i have to use all different objects etc.)

You will need to use several different tools, witch ones depend entirly on what you want the end design to look like. Basically Gmax lets you construct the various bits and peices that make up your vehicle and then you put them together to look like a car, house or whatever.

- How can you apply a texture to an object
This is an entire science so for full instructions you should check out one or several tutorials and the forums. As with most things Gmax it takes rather a long time the first time your learing a specific procedure but once you get a hang of it it's quite intuitive. The main tools are the material editors in the top right hand corner of Gmax but as I said, check tutorials...

- How can you export the object to flight sim
This is a little tricky the first times when your learning. First you need the correct MS flightsim "SDK" installed, there you will find a Gmax gamepack, you need to install this in order to export files that MSFS is going to be able to read. Next you will have to check out tutorials on how to set GUID:s in gmax and export files correctly. Once this is done I use the great libcreator software (available on this site) to make a library with the objects (a bgl file).

Once you have the BGL file there is a specific tool for FSX (if this is your sim) called objectplacer (or something of that sort, it's in the missions pack) that you can use to place the objects in the sim. It also needs installing to use in FS. Again, when reading this it may sound really complicated, I can assure you that it will probably feel like that for a little while until you figure it out with the help of people on the forums, tutorials and such. Once you get a hang of it though, it really isn't all to complicated and you'll be making scenery in no time =)

All the best and good luck!
/Daniel

For a complete summary of the process, with tutorials' covering each step, search this forum for a how-to I created called "How to get your scenery object from your mind's eye to FSX"
