• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi all,
I'm a programmer since about ten years and I've always been interested in aviation and flight simulators.

Now I would like to start to develop panels for FS.
I'm good in general programming stuff, but I've almost no experience with graphics.
So I'm looking for:
- People that would like tio develop something toghether (better if (s)he has opengl programming experience)
- Suggestion about graphics and performance (for example: what is better between two ways to obtain the same graphical result? )

Welcome to FS!

First off the big thing is to see if you can get images of the panel you want to make. Then start looking into gauges

XML is great and easy compared to C+/++ or GDI+ but is slower to refresh than C+/++ or GDI+

I have no experience in C or GDI but I wish you the best of luck.

I'm able to do "background gauge programming", for example to make a working FMC, PDF, ND, Overhead programming stuff, but about graphics I'm really at the start.
I also would like to do it in OpenGL/GDI+ instead of XML because they're faster and more portable between platforms.

The Aces tool is excellent for gauges especially with images and will write xml. I have no background in GDI+ or C++ because I do not have the time to learn it but the code is read faster from what I hear and you can probably do more with it. There is a post in the gauges forum that will lead you directly to the GDI+ sdk on the MS website.
