• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Night texture problem

if it isn't one thing, its another....

with v 3.5, night textures no longer show up in FSX. Not even the glitchy see-through problem is there.... they just dont show up.

Well I am, in turn, glad to see that it's not just me.

Looks like we might have some kind of bug on our hands....

Just to let everyone know, I contacted Abacus concerning the night texture problem with FSDS and FSX. The software has been updated. Simply redownload it and install it again and the problem will be fixed.

Wow, well that's not a very effective method on Abacus' part. Very silent and transparent - how would the average person know there was an update?

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info.

You are part of the fsdeveloper.com family, therefore you are not "average".

Obviously, you are an asiduous reader of these forums, where such glitches are discovered, discussed and ultimately brought to the developer's attention.

The "average" user would not even realize there is a problem!

(That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.)

Yeah, thanks very much Hawkaye for the heads up on the FSDS V3.5.1 info. Its nice to know we have someone out there keeping up with the upgrades.

Well if it works with 3.5.1 then I must be doing something wrong!

I created a texture and gave it "_LM" suffix, ticked LM in the properties and nada zip zilch

Fixed it - appears that I hadnt re-downloaded the correct file - I did it from a different PC adn all is well - phew lol

Ian

Okay, confess HOW did you do it, and WHAT file is it that you need?

Í've not been able to get night lighting on a basic scenery object.

Well you need to re-download FSDS upgrade version. You will know it is OK if it says version 3.5.1 when you install it.

What happened to me is that I had "downloaded" the old version in cached memory Thanks Microsoft ;)

I understand you can refresh the browsers cached page by <CTRL> F5 which in theory should fix this!

I just used a different PC that had not downloaded the page before just to be sure.

OK (Teaching grannies to suck eggs here, but others may find it useful :) )

As for how I created and used the night texture, its simple really - make the day time texture in the program of choice, give it a name eg., MyTexture.bmp, copy it as MyTexture_LM.bmp and edit it to suit night time use.

Once the textures are created, apply them to the model in FSDS as normal, just remember when you select the texture make sure that you tick the LM box.

Compile the bgl or mdl in the normal way and provided that you put the textures in the right place (the texture folder set up in your preferences) it should work - see attached screenshot.

Ian - I have been fighting with that for a couple of months, with no luck. I *thought* I had even tried that same combination - ticking LM, etc. etc.

Now, of course, after trying that same suggestion (picked up from the FFDS forum), now it works!

Thanks for reconfirming the method....!

I am now happier with FSDS 3.5.1 now that we have the "attachpoint" working. I made my first hard surface and rolled an airplane up the ramp, and can even have it illuminated at night!

FSDS 3.5.1 Night texture work okay now.

I see the last post was 9-22-07. FYI, I purchased FSDS 3.5.1 on 10-23-07. The night textures work just fine.
