• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Night textures

I've noticed that on some aircraft, even if I check the "Night textures" box, no "_LM" file is generated in the destination texture folder, even though one is present in the source folder.

Now can I add night textures to those static AC?

Please send me an aircraft (or a link to one) that exhibits this difficulty.

Don

EDIT: Don't bother sending me anything. It's a general problem. (From your description, I assumed it affected only certain aircraft.)

I'll get a fix out ASAP.

If you copy the _L file(s) into the static model texture folder and rename it/them _LM, it should work.

I've found the problem in SAMM and should have a fix shortly.

Thanks! I figured it was pilot error ;)

A fix for the night textures is available at here.

Please let me know if it resolves your difficulties.

Sorry Don... It actually seems to have created a new issue. I haven't been able to get the version 1.1.14 to compile at all (see attached) I tried several different AC with the same result. Also, the "night textures" box is greyed out on some.

That error message generally means SAMM couldn't find the compiler. (I say "generally" because the error is generated by Windows, so I can't be sure without being on your system.) Did you install the test version in your usual SAMM folder, or did you just install to a new folder? If the latter, you'll have to copy everything else from your SAMM folder.

I presume this is the FS9 stock aircraft. I just compiled it without difficulty. (However, there is an unusual instruction in the model file that I'll have to investigate and provide for, but that didn't stop the compile.)

Indeed. I left my system on all night for a disk defrag and something in Windows must have gone wonky since a reboot solved that issue quickly.

I tested several of the AC I had problems with and they seem to be generating night textures now. One thing I did notice though is that apparently some default FS9 AC such as the DC-3 (the origin of my night texture problem) and the Baron have no night textures and I assume that their .mdl file does not map any to the model. Does that sound correct?

As you've already discovered, neither the Baron nor the Dak have night textures - either mapped in the .mdl file or provided.

Incidentally, you can check this by generating a listing with textures displayed.

Once I figure out what is the unusual instruction in the DC-3 .mdl file and provide for it, I'll re-release SAMM.
