• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Night Textures

I've been trying to make night textures with modelconverterx for custom made sketchup buildings. When I upload the model, I minimize drawcalls and update all textures in mass texture editor. I then click render night and go to materiel editor, click the appropriate textures, go down to night textures and add [texture name]_LM.dds corresponding to the file type of the daytime textures. When I click enter the textures included in that dds turn a checkered black and white. Why is this? What am I doing wrong and how do I fix this?

One other side note: I tried removing the _LM from the night texture, and when I pressed enter, all the windows illuminated appropriately, however when I compiled it and placed it through ade, fsx wouldnt start up even with multiple tests and restarts, it had a fatal error message. (It was proved to be the cause because once I removed the bgl fsx started up)

The checkerboard indicates missing textures.

What you are doing in MCX is assigning a night texture to the model. You have to create the actual texture, MCX doesn't do that for you.

cheers,
Lane

I"m having the same problem even with textures that exist. In fact, I can reliably create the checkerboard effect by simply RELOADING the exact same texture file that MCX imported in the first place. Texture is there. Load same texture, poof, it disappears, thows the "Can't load texture" error and makes a checkerboard.

I made a separate post on this, but I think this is one Arno needs to look at.

See my reply in the other thread, it has to do with the relative paths used by sketchup. If you select a new texture in the editor these are lost and therefore you get those issues.
