• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

no drawcall optimizing for some models?

Second model I've had so far that hasn't shown a change in drawcall amounts when run through the optimizer preview. I have the 4096 texture sheet chosen and when the preview is done it shows the same amount of drawcalls before and after. I'm re-converting all these Collada models with the newer version of MCX (previously did them all with the older version with separate drawcall optimizer/batch texture windows) and in the previous pass I don't recall a single model losing at least some drawcalls. Here is the model in question for anyone who wants to check it out:

I took a look at it, though Arno is the expert.

I too saw no improvement listed in the drawcall minimizer window.

I went ahead and clicked on the Minimize drawcalls button and MCX did combine the textures and reduce the drawcalls to 2, using 1024x1024 textures.

cheers,
Lane

good thinking, I didn't even bother seeing what would happen. Seems the bug is in the output results then. I'll wait to see if that's the only issue before continuing tho

Hmm, I noticed something similar some time ago.
After optimizing drawcalls I wasn't sure if it did anything, but when I looked into the object properties I saw that it indeed worked.
Another indicator is when you open the texture tab and see the merged texture maps, which have to be saved.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi,

I'll take a look, but it might take a while, I'll not the around the next days.

What can happen is that the texture is combined correctly, but other material settings are still different. Then you can have more drawcalls than textures. The optimize tab in the material editor helps to find those difference.

Hi,

There was a bug in the predict results indeed. That should be fixed in the next development release.
