• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

No Night Textures

Hello,

first I want to thank Don for his great tool,
which I discovered recently!

My main interest for its use is to create static
aircraft, that are illuminated at their position
in the evening or night,to replace AI-aircrafts.
that appear like black holes, parked in the
bright light of aprons.

SAMM works fine in most aspects,
if I check the doors open or cargo doors open option,
my static aircraft will have open doors,
but although I have the night textures
box checked,my static aircraft remain dark.

If I look at the SAMM texture editor,
the light maps are actually unchecked
and if I try to give them a check, appears the message
'the use of night textures is controlled from the Main Panel'.

And as I said above, the night textures box at the main panel
is checked.
I looked at the texture folder of the static aircraft
-and no,the light maps of the original aircraft are not there.
So I copied the light maps over to the static aircraft texture folder
-no effect!
I tried this with several aircrafts like the Project Airbus A320,
the FAIB B737-800 or the POSKY B737-800.

So it seems, the light-on/light-off switch does not work for me...

I am using version 2.2.03 of SAMM for FSX in Win7.

Any help or a solution would be very appreciated,
I really want to get rid off those black dark parked AI-aircraft,
that spoil the otherwise very beautiful airport night-sceneries,
that we can get for FSX or P3D.

Kind regards,Jens

Jens, no one has report this situation previously and I'm not sure I have ever tested for it.

I'll investigate ASAP and, hopefully, will be able to provide a fix.

I'll respond in this thread. Thanks for the report.

Please download and test SAMM Development Release 2.2.03(d), now available from http://stuff4fs.com. (Be sure to use the Development Release menu button.)

I have tested the fixes with the stock FS9 B737-400 and the stock FSX b747-400. Due to aircraft design flexibility, I can't guarantee that the lights will show for all aircraft, but it should work for most.

Please report your test results. If satisfactory, I'll re-release generally.

skyjunkie, please confirm whether or not the development release resolves your night texture issues.

Hi Don ,

thank You for Your time and efforts, you are dedicating my problem.

I just downloaded your development release.

Sorry to say,for the aircrafts I used before, there are still no light maps.
And still no check in the texture editor behind the light map with
night textures checked in the main panel.

I also tried manipulating the default aircrafts as you did,but strange enough,
with any stock aircraft that I load with Samm appears the message:
"texture folder not found" or "model folder not found".

But my stock aircraft exist definitly in my FSX as ai-aircraft
and texture folders and model folders are where they should be...

I will be on holiday during the next week,
but would be glad to hear from You afterwards.

Best regards,Jens

Sorry to say,for the aircrafts I used before, there are still no light maps.
As explained in the manual, aircraft developers use a variety of techniques to accomplish their design goals - not all compatible with SAMM. If you provide me with a link to your aircraft so I can download and check it (assuming it's freeware), I'll be happy top do so. If it's a payware aircraft, then I need bits from your aircraft folder, namely the model folder, one texture folder and the aircraft.cfg file. Be aware that will be a technical breach of the license under which you obtained the aircraft (not that I plan to do anything with the files except diagnose your case), so use your own judgement in that regard.

And still no check in the texture editor behind the light map with night textures checked in the main panel.
This is a secondary issue, if an issue at all.

I also tried manipulating the default aircrafts as you did,but strange enough, with any stock aircraft that I load with Samm appears the message:"texture folder not found" or "model folder not found".
To my recollection, this has never before been reported. So, I suspect it's due to some uinique configuration issue on your system - perhaps Language or location. If you are running with a language other then English, please try again with English.

If you wish to pursue this further on your return, please identify the aircraft of concern and provide me with a link or aircraft data as applicable.

Hey Don,

after trying out more aircrafts,
most of them now show up with night-textures after their conversion.

Maybe I just had bad luck with the selection of the first planes,
which I tried to convert with SAMM.

Thank You so much for Your tool and Your time,
You are dedicating to us,Don!

With Your tool I can improve my sceneries in
a way,I dreamt of for a long time,
SAMM is really highly appreciated!

Kind regards,Jens
