Hi All
Recently found my old FSDS V2.24 and when I try to install the FuelTruck and Watertower into Meigs nothing shows up. I had some previos notes on how to correct this problem but could not find them.
I beleive I followed the instructions in thr manual and put in the correct coordinates.
I've reinstalled FSDS several times to no avail.
I installed the above objects into FS addon scenery and they are in there. All the rest of FSDS works correctly. I have other addon scenery that do appear in MSFS 2004
What is the correct way to set up the projects so that they will appear in MSFS?
My system:
MSFS 2004
Win XP SP3
2Gb ram
1GB Geforce Vdo
2.4 ghz CPU

I appreciate any assistance.

Thank you

Hi dpend82.

I do not have version 2.24, but I would think that 3.5 is the same.

I am assuming you are saving your project as a BGL file.

I set cord like this .
-open game and slew to the location I want my object.
-Save flight and name it something to do with the object…In your case, (location for Fuel Truck), would be good.
-Close game
-Open FSDS and the project.
-Click on FILE then Project Properties.
-Click on Import from Saved Flight.
-Navigate to the saved flight and double click on it.
Something like this ( C:\Users\Farfy\Documents\Flight Simulator Files)
-This should set the cords for you.
Then save the project as a BGL and install this BGL and you should see it in the location.

Hi Farfy
Thanks for the quick reply.
i have done the instructions as per you.
I am using FSDS V2.24 and I cannot find a "Click on Import from Saved Flight".
I used the KORD for a location to get the coordinates and saved it.
I saved the project properties with the correct coodinates and saved my project Fuel Truck as a .bgl file in my addon scenery directory.
And still the Fuel Truck object does not show up.

Any further ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

Are you sure you entered the coordinates correctly? N and E coordinates are positive, so a west position as Meigs has would be a negative value (unless you enter the W as well).

Hi depend82

Arno is so right you need to have the format that FSDS is looking for.

I went to Meigs and saved the flight from the center of the RW, then opened FSDS 3.5
And loaded the cords as I described before and this is how FSDS shows it.

N041:51:30.5557

W087:36:28.3911

Hope this helps

Hi all

Thanks for the quick reply
I still cannot get my watertower to show. I reinstalled both MSFS and FSDS v2.24. I recheck my coordinates. Maybe I entered them incorrectly.
Farfy: I used your cords for Miegs rwy center and I wind up 0.1nm east of the rwy and in the water my rwy center at the rwy threshold is
N41:51:36 W87:36:46
Farfy's showed: N041:51:30.5557 W087:36:28.2911

I notce that the cords seconds show up but they are not visible on the FS screen (Shift-Z) but are in Project Properties. Are they required?

Are colons required between all the numbers and is a dot required prior to the seconds?

Thank you for your further help

Hi depend82

The numbers I posted were from FSDS after in imported from the saved flight,
So I would type or copy and paste them as I posted them, it should put you in the game about half way down the RW in the center of it.

Another thought for you to try is just make a cube and use the default settings I think this is just to the right of the RW at KSEA ( FSDS 3.5) doing this you can at least see if FSDS and the compilers are working correctly.

Hi Farfy

I tried a cube at KSEA and it did not show.
And using your Meigs rwy cords put my plane 0.1nm east in the water.
I am using MSFS 2004 and FSDS V2.34. Are you using FSX ?I can't use MY FSX prog with FSDS2

Thanks again

dpend82

I have both FS9 and FSX, BUT I went in FS9 and I put my plane in the center of the RW I then saved the flight I did NOT look at the cords I just saved the flight.
I then opened FSDS 3.5 I made a cube and entered the cords for this cube by using the method I wrote earlier I then coped them from FSDS and posted them.

So I would think that if you made a test object with FSDS2.34 and entered those cords in FSDS2.34 it should also put your object in that location.

As for it not showing at KSEA
Read the read me doc for FSDS2.34 and make sure that KSEA is the default location.
Also there were a few files that needed to be installed to make FSDS work I wonder if the older version also needs additional files.

FSDS3.5 needs
MSXML v4.0 and .net Framework (and seems to me one other I dont remember at the moment), check the older version to see if you need other files

Hi Farfly
Nothing new but more frustration. I wonder when i formatted my HDD (2 mos ago) maybe I lost or coruppted a file or two that were necessary for a correct FSFS 2.24 file compilation. All of my other Progs work OK: FS9 ,FSX,FScommander,FSNAV 4.70
At this point I am considering ordering FSDS3.
What would be the benefits of FSDS3 vs FSDS2?
I looked at GMAX but that seems to be more complcated.
How much steeper is the learning curve in GMAX?
Can I use the saved Projects from FSDS2 in FSDS3?
Should I order the DL version or the CD version and what upgrade version?
Should I delete FSDS2 before installing FSDS3?

Many Thanks

Hi,

Can you maybe attach the BGL file you made here on the forum? Then we can take a look and maybe see why it does not work.

To many question so little time LOL.
But I would sure like you to get the older version of FSDS working before you jump into the newer one as you are going to face all the same problems, with the added frustration of just putting out some cash.

As Arno said perhaps the BGL file you have made and the FSC file as well, would be great so I can see how you have entered the cords.

H_Farfy:D

Just put them in a zip folder and you can attach them here when you post look at the bottom were it says “Manage Attachments”

Hi Don

I opened your fire truck at compiled it as a BGL and installed ..I didn’t install any textures but from the screen shot you can see its location.

Humm …Odd I installed the BGL that you made and I see that the fire truck is not there but when I compile the FSC file you sent with making no changes I get the fire truck..

But the water tower BGL files that you sent is there.

Could you just make a cube at those same cords and send me the FSC file.
