• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi guys, I wonder if someone can tell me which is the best Object Placement Tool and the easier to use; I have downloaded a C130 aircraft that needs this tool so as to place it on FSX. Never have done this before and I am completly lost in the matter. Appreciate some help
Thanks

Hi,

Personally I think WhisPlacer is a good tool (and it is free). I know other people also use Instant Scenery, but that is payware. I would not use the Object Placement Tool from the SDK, since the user interface of it is really unfriendly.

Hi Arno, thanks for the advice; I will downloaded and give it a try------- and there's when the problems will start:D

Hi Arno, downloaded Whisplacer version 0.9. 23 December 2007 from their webb and now I have a Whisplacer folder on my C drive. However I can,t find an exe to run/start the program. Can you tell me if besides this file I have to download something else?

Whisplacer

As expected problems started once I finished downloading the software, but that is part of the game, isn't guys. I managed to get hold of the exe by doing a second download. So now I can see the main screen but am still having troble in downloading the necesary thumbnails from their main webb site. Download stops about 50% and it won't unzip. Any idea where else can I find the thumbnails that Whispalcer needs?

As far as I know they are only on the official website.

But to place your own object, you don't need the thumbnails. You can already start placing it without them.

Can recommend Flight 1 Instant Scenery

Comes with a library maker and you place the models directly in the sim. You can download a trail version, you will be restricted to KSEA but it certainly gives you an idea of what you're buying. Defiantly worth the money.

Whisplacer

OK guys thanks for your recomendations that I will try. However Arno and sorry for my ignorance:o but I am really new to all this; Can you give me a little advice on the steps that I need to make in order to place the airplanes? can I do this in spite of the software saying that no images will show until the thumbnails are installed?

A little utility to place objects using the Object Placement Tool is Abacus' "Scenery Shortcut" for FS-X (deluxe).

http://www.abacuspub.com/catalog/S700.htm

It's not the most feature rich utility, but you can't fault the cost...

I never understood that "product". The OPT has a button called "Save as Scenery" already which gives you a XML file for BGLComp directly from the OPT. The additional layer that Scenery Shortcut adds is not useful IMHO.

Hi,

OK guys thanks for your recomendations that I will try. In the most simple case it would go like this:

  • Start WhisPlacer
  • File -> New
  • Tools -> Library Manager
  • Under CurrentScenery right click and "Add Object", then select your MDL file
  • Now add a new object to the scenery ("add library object" button)
  • click on the coordinates where you want it and then double click on the footprint that appears
  • In the dialog box click on the thumbnail (or empty one if not present), then you get the library browsers where you can selec tthe object you want. Under CurrentScenery you should find the one you added.
  • Adjust other properties if needed
  • Save as BGL file and view in FS

PS. This assumes you add the MDL in WhisPlacer as well (making it geo-locked), if you already have a library that is not needed, but than you need to load the library in WhisPlacer.

Whisplacer

Whow Arno I will sure give it a try but for a beginer like myself, it sure seems a vwery hard task to accomplish. I'll soon find out:)
