• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

Object Placement Tool

I've constructed several simple objects using FSDS V3. Exported them as scenery objects. Ran the resulting mdl and xml files through Library Creator XML. Compiled the modified library and moved the new libray bgl to the FSX Addon\scenery folder.

When I run Object Placer Tool there's no problem selecting and placing the object but the object seems locked in place. I can select it and the green frame appears around the object but when I try to move the object for fine tuning the location the green boarder changes to yellow and I can't move it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

This is the main reason why I use Whisplacer:)

It can be very tricky to select some objects -- the smaller they are, the more difficult. Single planes, such as fence segments, are notoriously difficult. Sometimes you just need to keep clicking in a different place, until the object box turns green again -- then grab it there, anywhere else will lose focus again.

It also helps if you move the point of view so that the object you are trying to select is more accessible -- get closer, and square-on.

If you reload a scenery XML file, OPT will automatically lock the position of any existing objects, so you'd need to unlock them before you can move them. And when you reload some previously placed objects, some bounding boxes are huge, having no relation to the actual object, and are impossible to select. In this case, you just need to keep loading the XML file until the object you want to move has a 'normal' bounding box.

I do use OPT a lot for quick jobs, as it is very handy, but for larger projects I'm less inclined to get frustrated if I use Whisplacer...

Problem solved

Thanks for the reply toprob. I did exactly what you suggested and after several attempts was finally able to grab the object move it.
