• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Oculus Rift

Will there ever be any chance for the Oculus Rift to work with FSX?

The head tracking can be probably implemented through SimConnect via a custom-written dll, but I don't think the display part can be overridden to display what Oculus Rift needs. Any thoughts?

I understand the tracking is already enabled using FaceTrackNoIR and the display (presumably with optional 3D, can anyone confirm?) using VorpX

I would expect Oculus Rift to monitor head position somehow. Either by computiong position from some points on the head from webcam or something (similar to TrackIR, FreeTrack etc.) or by some gyro thing maybe coupled with a compass (ala smartphone). If you had access to this output, you could write a driver or maybe translator to TIR output for use with EZCA and like.

Unfortunately I cannot help with the output, as I don't own nor know Oculus Rift (although i would eventually like to). Although since I have seen claims of FSX working on 3D displays (of the 3DTV principle kind), I believe it should be possible to somehow make it work.

Hi,

From what I have heard it seems that the game/application needs to be updated to warp/deform the image for correct display on the oculus. Since we can't alter that output part for fsx, I don't think it will work. But I must also add that I don't own one, so not completely sure.

Looks like FSX Rift support is still in it's infancy and may not ever be capable of working on a level we would all like. I was excited when I first saw the Rift and my first thought was hope this works with FSX...! With P3D V2 on the horizon, I believe this is where my hopes now lie.

The name 'Occulus Rift' sure sounds cool, like the name of a ship, or a dangerous sea shore or Nebulae.

"I've been to Oculus Rift. Don't go there.
As you pass Spartan Shoals on your way in, your sensors are starting to pick up ghosts - at least that's what we're calling them. Your screens will scramble once in a while and if you stare too long and with too much attention you will see patterns, as if the Rift is talking to you.
It does something to your mind.
Sure, the fields are richer the deeper you go and your pay is higher, but when the first poor sod blows his brain to bits on stims or throws himself out of the airlock because he "can't make it stop", you wish you never went there.
I've heard of mutinies, mass suicides and more than one bloody whole mining vessel slamming itself into an asteroid, because someone important lost it.
You can't spend a single shift without passing a debris field or without a frozen, mutilated body bumping against your harvester.
So listen, kid: If you really want to spend the next months of your miserable existence in the Rift, always remember this: Dont. Think. About. It. The Rift doesn't want you to think."

(That was fun.)

you would of though the rift developers would have made a compatibly box so you could just plug into your standard DVI/HDMI out, and their hardware takes care of it all

anyhow, i hope they figure it out eventually, i really want to try.

in the mean time i'm been eying up an amazing samsung 70" curved 4K tv in my local electronics shop, i bet FSX would look pretty awesome on that (if i had about $6000)
