i've got a real puzzeler for you guys here ... for some reason when saveing as a DXT5 dds texture in photoshop this is what the alpha turns out like ..

b17g_2_t_speccopy.jpg

i've saveing from photoshop useing the DXT5 ARGB/ 8bpp/interpolated alpha setting with no mip maps .. anyone have the slighest idea whats causeing it?? I've tried reinstalled the nvidia tools and that didnt do a thing

Have you got any transparent/semi-transparent areas on the texture? If so the exporter will put the level of transparency on the alpha layer, that's what the 'interpolated alpha' bit means. Try putting a background layer of solid white in and exporting again.

not really following what you mean?

It doesnt seem to matter what texture it is, the one above was from the spec map as it show the problem the best, but if happens with the diffuse and bump maps as well

It cant be the textures fault as its the ones from the a2a b17 paintkit, so its something in either the way i do things or a messed up setting somewhere. :(

No idea if it helps or not, but i've tried saveing from a 32 bit bmp file as well as the orig multilayered psd's but both end up looking the pic in post 1

Hi,

The alpha channel in a DXT5 file is also stored with some compression. There can be maximum 8 different alpha values per 4x4 pixels. So if you have a lot of variation in the alpha channel, you can see some compression.

There is something odd with Photoshop DXT5 alpha dds.

Try running the psd through imagetool.

I had some issues with this also.

well i was told there was an updated version from the one i was useing, so downloaded that and did a clean install of it .. works fine !! I did see the in the change log they'd fixed/added the layer stuff so i'm guessing thats what did it.

Problem solved! :)

Ah. Thanks for that. I'll check my plugin version.

Don't you use DXT1 when using alpha? DXT5 for normal no alpha?

Of course i don't use photo Shop. i figure it's something in the plugin.
