• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

Hey there, as you can see on the image, I need the highlighted area to get exturded by 3 meters height approx. but not like a very hard shape, just like a regular realistic smooth hill, any suggestions how to do that?

Hello:

The Skopje airport CVX vector flatten polygon adjacent to the RWY 34 area can be modified / recompiled, with the local flatten segment then being kept closer to the RWY and Taxiway surface, allowing the underlying terrain mesh to NOT be flattened.

The terrain textures from the 'orthophoto' imagery will provide the airport background 'texture', so the CVX vector Airport Boundary (Background) Polygon need only be a flatten with no additional Exclude Autogen / MaskClassMap attribute.

Those textures will drape onto the underlying terrain shaped via terrain mesh and/or a CVX vector sloped flatten.


If you load:

[FSX install path]\Scenery\0602\scenery\dem0602.bgl

...and:

[FSX install path]\Scenery\0602\scenery\cvx5317.bgl

...in SDK TMFViewer, you will see elevation detail already available to be rendered via default FSX / P3D terrain mesh.

FYI: You can preview the detail available via FreeMeshX terrain mesh BGLs which are newer than the FSX / P3D BGLs.

Rather than attempting to create your own custom CVX vector "sloped flatten" terrain BGL from contour data points and poly-lines, you instead can utilize a 'ready-to-use', free to download, SRTM elevation raster-derived, 1-Arc Second resolution (38.2 Meter / LOD-10 SDK Resample output) terrain mesh BGL for ex: Skopje here:

Use u-Torrent as a peer-to-peer Torrent download application, to pick only the files you want for your local project Geographic coverage area from the big FreeMeshX "Global" torrent file.


It is not impossible that one may achieve 'slightly' more detail than the default or FreeMeshX FSX / P3D terrain mesh, as the small hills may be rendered via a custom CVX vector sloped flatten polygon output by MCX from a 3D model.

But even at 30 Meters between elevation data points from downloaded 1-Arc second (30 Meter) resolution SRTM or ASTER GDEM data, one would still only derive 10 or 11 data points along the axes of those hills on their North or South dimensions, so most of any further 'enhancement' would need to be done manually in ex: 3DSMAX. ;)

Look, I want the same, the default terrain to be flatten and the selected area to be like 3 meters in height, getting up slightly, not hard shape, that I think is only possible with 3DS Max, so I have never done thing like this and thats the reason I don't know how to do that.
 
Hey I fixed this, I cut the ortophoto, the area I wanted, sliced manually alot of boxes then vertex by vertex changed it height..

Hey Gary, sorry for bothering you, I have one question which I'm looking for an answer these days.

I have exported the mesh and it looks good (30m) in sim, but now I don't know how can I stick my orthophoto (photo-real) to the new mesh?


IIUC you have created and have available, (1) or more MDL-based 3D object to display the hills as scenery objects.

These may not require all of the same considerations as G-Polys, as they are intended to display grass textures rather than pavement.

But, they would need to be manually textured (...a lot of work). :alert:


Alternatively, one may "drape" or "project" intended textures onto 3D model Faces from above on the Z-axis

Sketchup can perform this task by default and/or with assistance of a plugin Ruby script, and IIUC, 3DSMAX can also do this.


HOWEVER:

Z-axis "drape" or "projection" of intended textures onto terrain mesh / sloped flattens is what FS normally does with land class textures. :pushpin:


AFAIK, since you now have (1) or more MDL-based 3D object to display hills as scenery objects, I recommend what I originally suggested:

1.) Import the non-textured 3D model(s) into MCX

2.) Geo-reference the center of the 3D model(s) to the intended placement location(s) in the target scenery Area

3.) Export from MCX as FSX Sloped Flatten CVX vector BGLs

4.) Use the "othophoto" to make a custom Photo-real imagery land class BGL mapped to the target Area of the sloped flattens

5.) Allow FS rendering engine to "drape" local custom Photo-real imagery or land class textures onto sloped flattens from above on Z-axis.

I have DEM BGL file exported but with default terrain textures, so now how can I stick my ortophoto to the new DEM?

Is it possible just to resample the imagery with the default inf settings?
If yes, why? What makes the difference when I export the mesh with resample tool?

SDK Resample is used for making terrain mesh, custom Photo-real imagery land class, and certain other types of BGLs.


IMHO, it is not "possible just to resample the imagery with the default inf settings" as a *.INF must be created for each unique source data set.


When you state: "I have DEM BGL file exported", do you mean you used a DEM to make a sloped flatten BGL ...or a terrain mesh BGL ?

If you made a CVX sloped flatten BGL, it modifies the shape of any underlying terrain mesh, so you do not need to make new terrain mesh.


BTW: Set your terrain sliders at the full Right (max) position in FS GUI. :pushpin:


If you use your orthophoto to make a custom Photo-real imagery land class, it will automatically "drape" on top of your sloped flatten.

Yes i want to use my ortophoto to make photoreal landclass.
Also I have bgl file for terrain, my ortophoto is going over or below it, it does not stick to the ortophoto, thats the problem how to do the ortophoto to stick to the terrain which is sloped flatten.
 
Okay I done that, I just resampled the ortophoto image and got a file 700mb hh but its working now
