• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Previously unpublished ongoing development work on Outerra: - global 10m imagery based on Sentinel satellite data, courtesy of TitanIM - global 10m forest map data, able to detect individual larger trees - global weather data using historical meteo data records, will also work with a real-time weather plugin - global city coverage using OSM data, real building layouts and building types - global import of bridges, overpasses, underpasses and tunnels (WIP) This version is currently being used in TitanIM (http://titanim.net), but all of the features will find their way also into OT tech demo after optimizing the data size.

The transition between the details close to the ground and the photoreal imagery still needs work. Some sequences in the video show the terrain as rather blurry, flat and dull.

Call the woodcutters! I saw a baby tree in the middle of a dirt road! :rotfl:

That is tremendously impressive work now.

So, I know this is still off the beaten track, especially as the FS community still orbits Microsoft, but here are some interesting fun factoids.

1) Microprose is back, and in the sim business, and has announced at least two upcoming simulation titles, of which one is definitely a flightsim.

2) In 2019, MicroProse (owned by Cybergun) was purchased by David Lagettie, one of the makers of the TitanIM open world modeling software based on the Outerra engine. "Wild Bill" Stealey, one of the company’s original co-founders joined him but it's unclear in which position.

3) For now it has been understood that the company is working on Warbirds 2020, with details at the moment being scarce.

I've been following Outerra development for years, and I have to say I'm really excited to see that someone is building a proper flightsim (albeit more geared towards combat stuff) on top of this technology.
