• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Parking Sizes

Hello,
First off, I use World of AI for my AI aircraft. My problem is very similar to others in that heavy 747s/777s will usually go out of their way to park at Medium sized gates and medium 767s will often park at Heavy gates despite the proper sized spots being available. I say "usually" because it varies. Recently while using ADE at KPHL I had several 767s parking at Small gates despite reducing the Small gate radii to 17 meters. I have similar problems with GA aircraft in that large Gulfstreams will park at GA Small spots while small Pipers will park at GA Large. I've seen the suggestion in other posts to check the aircraft.cfg files to see if the aircraft in question have the proper wing span values. It seems like this would be a very large number of aircraft with improper wingspan values but if this is the case can anyone tell me how to find these aircraft.cfg files for World of AI aircraft? I've been unsuccessful so far. Or if someone thinks that there is another problem, please let me know what that could be. Thanx.

You could have a couple of problems. The airport afcad parking spots may not be correct size. Or the A/C wingspan wrong in the .cfg file. I would suggest
correcting the wingspan value in the aircraft.cfg file in each of your aircraft. If it continues look at the afcad file parking spots and make sure the size is correct.

This link should help get both sorted out. http://www.flightsim2004-fanatics.com/FlightSim/FSXWingSpanValues.htm

I have my aircraft in folders with all models and liveries. So you only have one aircraft.cfg for each type. Example, FAIB_B737-800 or FSP_B787-9 etc.

World of AI aircraft folders should be like, WoA_...

Hope that helps.

Hi,

You could use Don Grovestein's AIFP program. In the aircraft editor you can check the information available for that aircraft.

Aircraft with smaller wingspans will always try to park in parking spots that are bigger. To avoid that, code your parking spots in ADE (or AFX?) and also add that code to your aircraft.cfg.

Thanx for responding STX6D. Yeah, the problem is that the parking spots are the correct size or very close to what they should be and it wasn't working. For example, looking at the list you sent the link for, a 767-300 should park at a spot of 23.79 meters radius. For me they were parking at much bigger radii or, as I said, at small 17 and 18 meter radii. I probably have to check the aircraft.cfg file as you stated but I couldn't find that. However, it seems that the next respondent to my question may provide a means of doing so. Thanx again.

Thanx Roby. I didn't know about Don Grovestein's AIFP program but I promptly downloaded it. As of right now I haven't had a chance to try it out yet but it looks promising and may be the answer I was looking for. Cheers.

Here's a pic where to find your aircraft cfg file for each aircraft. File at bottom, "aircraft"

Open the aircraft cfg file and look for this.

The wing span entered in the aircraft cfg file should be in feet. The column highlighted in yellow, see link posted. I have not used AIFP for this, I found it after the fact.
If you want post the aircraft cfg in question and the airport afcad file so we can have a look.

I have 6.52 gigs of AI aircraft, and they all park where I tell them. :P I keep it back up, years of work.

As does AIFP, Ed, and you can at the same time start working on your flightplans and convert your MAIW FS9 flight plans to FSX ones.
But I agree that Martin does a great job in giving a lot of extra information on the MAIW aircraft, flightplans, airports, etc .
I always check his website before I go to the MAIW one (Hey, sorry, but I cannot find any 'thumbs up' smiley for Martin).

You are tha dude Robystar! I followed your directions to get to the aircraft.cfg file. Found the 767-200 file and, for whatever reason, the wingspan was set to 94.75 which is the wingspan for 737-300s, 400s and 500s. I changed it to the 156.08 that it should be and low-and-behold, the 767s are parking at their proper spots now. I still have to check many other aircraft but have no doubt the results will be similar. Now I have to go to several airports that I've used ADE/AFCAD on and change the parking spots to the way they should be but now I don't mind that much. Many thanx.
