• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Parking

Slowly starting to get some things figured out. I'm still running into the same problem though. Is it normal for planes to park in an area that is too small for it? I have a 767-300ER that parks in an area with a radius of 24m. I have a spot wide open that not only has the correct atc_parking_code, but that is 36m. I checked and the 767 has a radius of 35m.

Thanks - and Happy New Year!

Thanks Reggie,

That fixed the size issue. I now have the plane parking in the correct size of stall. Now I'm just have to find a way to have it park in the correct stall. I have atc_parking_codes=LIV in the aircraft.cfg file and LIV in the airline codes in ADE, but the 767 will park in every other spot but the LIV spots that are the correct size and unoccupied. I'm going to keep playing with it though.

You need both the following in your aircraft.cfg and then also the same for the parking spot in ADE. This tell ATC to send the LIV plane to the parking spot you want it to go to and not a random one just because it will fit.

atc_parking_types=GATE or a GATE_Letter
atc_parking_codes=LIV

Jim,

Where do you find this stuff. I've wanted to do that for some time now. BTW. Happy New Year!

looking at a few aircraft.cfg's, the parking types and codes appear ok. But I don't see a title called wing_span=, after running the FIND option or visibly looking myself. Is it safe to say that most if not all of the aircraft cfg's do NOT have this title and need to be added?
Thankyou.
PS. Working with ADE, and FSXPlanner. I love these types of utilities. Now I just have to get them all figured out.

The wing_span entry is in the [airplane_geometry] section. I think every FSX plane has to have that section.

The wingspan value in the aircraft.cfg is feet. There are many sources that will show you the correct wingspan of a plane such as

http://www.airliners.net/aircraft-data/

Place the correct wingspan in ft into the aircraft.cfg Once you have corrected all the AI Planes you need to do some math for the parking spot size in ADE.

Example B737-800

wing_span = 117.42 Feet divide by 2 = 58.71 ft

Convert 58.71 ft to Meter = 17.8948 using the following web site

http://www.metric-conversions.org/length/meter-conversion.htm

Round up to 18M and that is what the size parking spot is needed for the B737-800 to park. Now place the ICAO Airline code in both the GATE parking spot and the aircraft.cfg.

Example for aircraft.cfg

atc_parking_types=GATE
atc_parking_codes=DAL

You might as well fix the Empty Weight value also when you look up the wingspan. The EW in the aircraft.cfg controls what runways FSX uses when multiple or weight restricted runways are in use with some 3rd party designed ADE airports.
