• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Photo texures

Photo textures

Hi,

I just finished some buildings and applied photo textures to it. But I don't really know what to do. With the photo textures you see different colors on the building, because each pixel has a different color, I could make it one color, but I don't know if it looks better or if it looks not 'real' anymore. My buildings are not texured with very high quility pictures, and you can see it in the sim. And I can't really change it because of the fps. Any advise please: Make it one color or leave it as on the photo's??

Thanks,

(I hope I've made it clear enough what I mean, so you can understand it.)

I don't know what you mean with low quality photos, but in general I would try to use photo with a reasonable quality on my airport buildings. I have never seen that adding a few extra textures hurts the framerates too much.

I would stick with the photo textures anyway, maybe you only need to correct the colors on places where two textures meet and where they have a color difference.

Ok thanks. The photo's are found on the internet and didn't have a very high resolution. Maybe I'm gonna visit the Aviodrome soon, to make better photo's myself, because I modelled the buildings very accured (I had all the documents from the architect) And it would be a pity if the quality of the photo's bring down the quality of the whole scenery. Do you have any idea if the framerate will suffer if I add another (or two) textures of 1024 x 1024, or is the number of polygons mucj more important?

In general the polygon count is more important. I use 512x512 textures in general, but for a complex building that means you can have quite a lot of textures.

I do have some rather high quality photos of the 1928 terminal building, I made them last time I visited the Aviodrome. I just haven't got to making the building yet (want it to be part of my historical Schiphol scenery project). I still haven't had the time to extract the shape etc from the photos (I have no maps or so about it). If you would like to use these photos drop me an email or so.

It would be really cool if you can mail the photo's: my email adres is jorritvandommelen@hetnet.nl.
My schiphol 28 building does have quite a lot of polygons, I thought 800, but can't check at the moment, because the count polygon button in Gmax is gone  Have to reinstall Gmax I think. I planned not to exceed 3000 polygons for all of the Aviodrome Buildings, I don't think it should be a problem for the fps, as the microsoft AI aircraft are around 6000 polygons. If you want to use my Schiphol 28 gmax file, let me know. Keep in mind that I just started with scenery design, so my skills are still very green :)

[edit]
the building is 995 polygons
