• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

new to scenery design. how do you make photoreal scenery with gmax? I wanted to redo a town that is close to me (New Liskeard, ON)
I also wanted to redo the mesh for the area because I have found it to be incorect. are there any other tools involved? I have the FS2004 sdk also.

Photoreal scenery isn't normally created with gmax, as it's used for modeling. Photoreal is created with aerial imagery obtained from programs such as SBuilderX 3.15 or SASPlanet. Governments also sometimes provide this data as GeoTiffs, which can be further combined into bigger working areas with GlobalMapper (payware) or Qgis (freeware). A global source that can sometimes have decent imagery available is USGS EarthExplorer.

Here you can find two tutorials on photoreal creation. The first is an older tutorial, but based on the tutorial I learned from:

As far as mesh creation goes, you will need to download DEM data from a resource such as Earth Explorer or another source. I know Canada has a nice 19m data set available for download. I do not have a link handy, but a google search should turn up a result on this.

I made a tutorial on creating terrain mesh using GlobalMapper, however the same result can also be made using Qgis. The interface is just different.

Thank you! That's a huge help!

I have a BIG dude. I need manipulate the mesh and add polygons in 3d editor like blender. How I do this? Regards.

That's not how terrain scenery works. It's not stored as polygons, it's stored as raster data and the scenery engine creates the mesh for you. So there are not really tools to edit polygons. Of course you can edit the raster data.
