• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Any Photoshop tutorials, whether it might be video or PDF that shows how to make textures and materials for 3D models with ambient occlusion and correct lighting and all such stuff?
Like you see all amazing FS sceneries have, the amazing texturing and stuff, any tutorial links please?
Please don't say "search YouTube, there are many", nah, I haven't found any since the last 6 months. Hence am here.
Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

There are a lot of sites with tutorials other then YouTube. I just made a search and there are many nice links. Google searches for CG tutorials, Graphics tutorials, Photoshop tutorials and any other wording you desire and a lot will pop up. Seek and ye shall find.

Like Paul says CG texture tutorials are very usefull, ofcourse lighting and AO is done within the 3D program you use (most of the time that is). For specular, bump and such perhaps use crazybump (?)

There used to be an awesome website for FS Screenshot Artists and Painters of airplanes. Half was military, half was civilian. They were part tutorials, part forum, and part resources. They had fonts, showed how to do fabric over ribs paint effects, etc, etc, etc. I cant remember the name of that website, something like FSPainters.com or something. Many people were upset when it went offline, but I think someone put parts of it back online. Not sure where. Maybe someone here knows more about it.

As for 'settings' in FSX in Max/Blender/Gmax, that is a difficult call. The P3D SDK has some sample materials that are good for learning. That will put you on the right path. Also taking apart the materials for stock planes in FSX/P3D will show you their Alpha channels and things. You might end up asking people for settings for Materials as there are probably no existing 'lists' of settings for materials out there. (That might be a cool thing for someone with spare time and tons of knowledge to do, create a list of settings for materials for planes and scenery). There is a mesmerizing amount of settings that need to be done for a single material (that has the effects available in FSX). You can do basic textures with zero effects settings, but for proper materials with reflections and bump maps, etc, etc, etc, then you will need to setup your materials or have several of them (perhaps downloaded from someone) and have them in your Max/Blender/Gmax material library and just constantly reuse them.

Also, if you have Photoshop, you can get a free Developers kit for it from nVidia that includes a Normal Map generator (Bump Map generator) that works fine in FSX and its free. I have been using it for years. Let me know if you get it and I'll screenshot the settings page for it.

An excellent site. I get an email every once in a while saying; "Paul we miss you come back." or something to that effect. It's my favorite place for getting RGB color codes for military aircraft colors.

I learned so much from that site about painting, like chipping, ribs visible through fabric, getting original WWII fonts, color stripes for various airforces, how to paint rivets onto metal. Man, so much talent at that site.

I'm embarrassed to say I have not utilized the site as much as I should.
