• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Placing Trees manually?

Hi, i'm new here and I'm not sure where to ask this question, here or in the 3D Modelling assets.
Quick question, can anyone tell me if the MSFS trees can be placed manually? Just one type of tree as an exampe.
I made a 3d scan of a small local area and would like to exchange the scanned trees for the MSFS trees,
they just fit much better to the original MSFS trees in the surrounding area.

Hi and welcome,

I'm not sure how you would do it. I was chatting with someone the other night and we were looking at how we could make trees in a given area smaller as the default ones are too tall. Its easy to exclude the default trees, and adding new vegetation is similarly straight forward, using a poly. The trouble is I'm not sure which trees to add. The answer may be in the SDK, but I haven't got to that section yet.

Hello,

I am also intetested whether and how it is possible to place a particular tree manually? (eg. a spruce of a certain height...)

Thanks!

Milan

Hello:

If I am not mistaken at this early stage of getting oriented to new MSFS-2020 SDK development methods, this thread may prove pertinent to learning that work-flow:

Yes you can, there's two methods for tree placement:
  1. Vegetation Polygons
  2. Scenery Objects
To plant an individual tree you'll go into the scenery edit mode, and in your scenery library look up the tree in the library list, then you can plant it as a regular scenery object.

Alternately if you want to create a vegetation patch, create a polygon then choose Vegetation in your properties and choose the vegetation/biome grouping.
