• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Unable to open shapefile ERROR

Hi all, was working for days now on my scenery and everything went fine, until yesterday. :(
When building the package, i get the message " unable to open shapefile ... etc " and the package wont build and I can't edit my scenery anymore as it crashes to desktop when clicking "load into editor" .
Has anyone a solution for this, would be much much appreciated as I spent a lot of working hours in this scenery.

Thanks in advance :)
I'm guessing here but it looks like you saved either your airport background or some other polygon to your Windows desktop and then deleted it by accident. You should always save project polygons to a project sources subfolder under the main project folder. Check your project definition files with a test editor.
Hi Chris:

I have not had much time recently to study the MSFS-2020 SDK, but I was intrigued by your use of the word "shapefile" and a *.SHP source file above in this thread.

Did you create at ELLX, a custom "Biome", and/or did you create individual vegetation 3D model placements using 'shape' instructions per the MSFS-2020 SDK ? :scratchch

[MSFS SDK install path]\Documentation\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 SDK.chm > {Search} tab > query word: shape > SimpleBiomes sample

If so, would you please share more info on that work-flow to assist others in understanding individual vegetation 3D model placement via 'shapefiles' per the MSFS-2020 SDK ?

For example, there are inquiries on that subject in this thread:

Thanks in advance for your further clarification on this process, as we all seek a better understanding of the new MSFS-2020 SDK development methods. :)

quick question, has your shp file .xml sidecar file gotten borked? I've had that happen where the xml file lost the header code.
