• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Lockheed Martin has released a new version of Prepar3D, version 6. I have now updates my tools to support this version as well. That means you can select it as active FS version, that it will detect the installation location and that the SDK tools are also found from the Prepar3D v6 SDK.

The only disclaimer with this update is that I do not own Prepar3D v6 myself, so I have not been able to test everything. If you encounter any issues, please let me know.

Arno, I have been "fiddling" with P3Dv6 for the past week and I am no expert. LM released HF2 today and I think it has solved an issue I notice right off...Dynamic Lighting. Taking MDLs from P3Dv5.4 that via MCX I have configured Dynamic Lighting I find that in V6, the intensity and coverage of the effect is far less than in P3Dv5. Then there is the new item called "Brightness Adjustment" in the options portion of V6, which I will admit that I dont understand..yet, but if you "bring the brightness up", it shows the casted light from MDLs better but during daylight the sky is a wash out. (Not your problem). I was VERY glad to see your update today...makes things easier. THANK YOU.

At the moment I'm not aware of changes in the mdl format. So I think most things you describe also happen when you load a scenery made with the previous SDK. Compiling it again with the latest SDK probably has no influence.

Arno, many thanks for the insight. I have notice that in P3Dv6, in the Lighting Options, there is a slide bar for "gamma". Now in all honesty, I wouldnt know "gamma" if it knocked on my front door. However, I decided to "try it" and found that increasing the "gamma" in the lighting options has proven very interesting in regards to the actual "representation" (viewing) of Dynamic lighting without the washout caused by increasing the "Brightness Adjustment". Do you have any suggestions as to where I might find details on what "gamma" is as it relates to lighting or effects in P3D?
Thanks in advance.

I assume that's a parameter that goes into the shader. Does the SDK not explain what it does? I don't have P3D V6 myself, so I'm not familiar with the setting.
