• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

This is probably the last update to Library Creator XML as a separate tool. I am planning to integrate it into ModelConverterX in the future. This will allow me to add features like previewing of objects.

Unfortunately the current version of Model Converter X doesn't correctly read the .mdl files produced by SAMM, but Library Creater XML will correctly add them to a library.

Let me take a look at that, it should read FS2004/FSX style scenery MDL files correctly. Do you maybe have a sample I can debug?

Attached is an example where the tail rotor is misplaced and the wheels are missing:

This is what it should look like:

Hi George,

I have found part of the bug. The development release of tomorrow will show the tailrotor correct and also the wheels are there. Just the front wheels seems to still have a small offset, I'll try to find that bug tomorrow.

Btw: I must say this is a funny MDL file. It looks like it is a FS2002/FS2004 aircraft MDL file, which a FS2004 scenery MDL structure wrapped around it.

I thought I had explained, it is a scenery model created from an FS8/9 aircraft model by Don Govestine's SAMM program. The original mdl starts with "RIFF.. MDL8MDL".

Model Converter X cannot open the original aircraft model.

Yes, I understood that. But I expected that samm would make a mdl that is more similar to the normal fs2004 scenery mdl.

I am still working on the modelconverterx aircraft mdl reader. It works for some models, but not yet for all indeed.

I have moved this discussion to its own thread now, let me see if I can fix the bug with the wheels.

Hi George,

The model now imports fine into ModelConverterX, some animation tables were not read correctly. So the wheels and also the stairs are now showing fine.

It fix is available in the development release already.
