• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MCX Problem with batch converting to bgl

Hi, I've been trying out the batch converter wizard for the first time and it rocks except that when I convert to bgl it doesn't give the bgl files unique names. Instead they're all named untitled.bgl, and for each file that MCX converts it overwrites that file. This means I end up with only the last model that MCX converts, while all the previous ones are lost (overwritten). When I convert to mdl instead it works great, as each file automatically gets a unique name (the same as the original file name). Is there a way to give each bgl file a unique name as well?

Hi,

From which format are you converting to bgl? The name is typically taken from the objects that are loaded, when exporting to BGL file the first object in the scenery is used. But it sounds like you have them all named untitled.

Thank you very much for the quick response Arno. I'm converting from KML which was exported from Sketchup. None of the original Sketchup files or KML files are named untitled, and the weird thing is that MCX retains the original, unique file name when I batch convert them to mdl instead of bgl.

Hi,

Let me see if I can reproduce it with some KMZ files here. Might be a bug somewhere.

Hi,

I did notice that the KMZ reader did not set the object name and path information correctly. As a result of this many models were named untitled or model (that seems to be the default name in a KMZ file). This will be fixed in the next development release, then the KMZ filename will be used for the name instead.
