• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

This happened when I clicked the "Open" button after selecting the compiled BGL file.

I have another query as well. When the location map is shown for object placement, if I have not placed the object correctly in the map and it is not shown when I zoom i, I have to close the map and re-show it. Is there any way the map windows could contain a moveable map?

Thanks

Hi,

Let me see if I understand what is happening. You select an object to load and while it is still loading your select another one? The errors seems to indicate the reader is still busy, so can it be that the object you loaded before has not been shown in the preview yet.

About the map, you can pan the map. This is done with the right mouse button. Would that help?

I'll have to try the right mouse button thingy.

About the problem, thats not right.

I'm not trying to load 2 files, only the one file. It doesn't crashes when I am trying to load 1 bgl file only. This happens when I have just started the program and it is the first thing I am trying to do. No other actions have gone before it.

Thanks

Hi,

OK. I tried to reproduce it here, but I don't see the problem yet. Did I understand it correct that you took these steps:

  • Start ModelConverterX
  • Open the Convert and Place Object Wizard
  • Click on the ... button and select the object to load
  • Once you click Open in the file selection dialogue the object should start loading, but you get the error

Hi.

Yes, that's correct. It doesn't happen on every bgl. And it is a rather complex one.

Thanks.

Humm, very weird. Can you maybe send me one of the models that gives this problem, so that I can try to debug it?

Hi Arno

Thought I'd try it again this morning before I sent the .bgl as its rather large at 20Mb.

And much to my surprise, it didn't crash. Didn't do anything different than yesterday but it worked this time.

Oh well.

One question though. My model has 11 seperate bits combined into the 1 bgl. I can see each part seperately but I cant see the finished bgl as a compikations of all the bits. Is there any way of doing that?

And I tried the map scrolling with the right mouse button and it works fine. Thanks. ALthough, is there any way of changing the date of the map on the Google Satellite as they dont show the most up to date maps in my area for some reaon. I also have to shoe the time slicer to get the most recent maps up.

Thanks

Not really I think. ModelConverterX only shows one object at a time, that's how it is designed.

What you could try is to use the LOD editor to merge different MDL files into one. Than you might be able to see the total.

I don't think that the control I use to display the maps allows the time slicing. I would expect that you always get the current one from Google.

Hi Folks

Rory -
Sorry I'd not been in touch recently. :o

Is this your beautiful Rowan Gorilla VI MODU ?

If so,
then as Arno says
merging the components will allow all components to be visible.

It will eliminate the components in-game flashing on/off issue
when any component model's origin is out of the user's viewport.

However, a suggestion,
that a modeler might be able to provide a better solution/method to -

Instead of using MCX's LOD editor,
please try the following directly in 3DSMax.

Doing so will also solve the model placement versus AFD correlation issue,
thus facilitating easier relocation for rig-moves in the "Time-Machine".

The suggestion -
In 3DSMax, create a new empty parent object.

N.B.
WRT below, then Attach might not be the appropriate modeling term.

Attach your helideck component's surface's centre
to that new parent object's origin.

Attach the hull to the helideck support structure.

Attach the legs to the hull.

etc. etc. etc.

Does that make sense ?

The basic compiled-in standard attachpoint mechanism
would probably be better reserved for effects or nameplates.

EDIT -
I mention nameplates above,
as compiling the rig as a library object, (without specific identification features),
and utilising attachpoints for those identification features in the xml/bgl,
will be a major FPS saving.

i.e.
1 instance referenced to multiple locations
versus
multiple instances of that object.
