• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Problem with creating maps with SBuilderX

Hello,
I use SBuilderX 313. I wanted to try to make a photoreal scenary that covers the whole country of Slovenia. Since I am not very familiar (and after trying it, I didn't like it at all) with FSET, I thought to use SBX. Blendmasks etc. are not a problem in this case, but I would like to know if there is a way to add a map with a higher zoom than the ones listed when I try to do so - With zoom=13 I already get stuck, but I would like to work on the whole country (or divide it into very large parts) being able to add a map with e.g. zoom=15 directly.
Is there a way of doing this?
Any help is well appreciated !!

The available zoom levels are connected to the initial zoom level you use in SBuilderX.

Try zooming in to level 11 (Zoom=11 in the bottom left corner of the SBuilderX Window) to be able to access Zoom=15.

cheers,
Lane

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately that would require too many maps merged together - I would like to have the choice to select 15 when on zoom 7 or 8 that's why I'm asking if that's possible

The memory requirements in Sbuilder for 1 image covering such a large area at that zoom level would be off the charts and way past the programs limit.
The only way is to have Sbuilder create separate large images at zoom level 15 and then combine them later in an image editor, if you insist on working with 1 image. (That is the method I prefer). The size of the image would then be limited by our image editor and RAM limits. Be careful to splice them together carefully and take note of the new coordinates of your new single image.
The next best bet is to use multiple smaller images and have resample combine them into a BGL later.

Thank you for replying, unfortunately that would require a huge amount of tiles - is there really no other way of covering large photoreal areas?

There is no other way that I know of with Sbuilder. If you do not want to work with several images or combine them, you must give up one for the other: either cover a large area at a very low resolution or cover a smaller area at a higher resolution.
Consider using higher resolution near populated areas and airports and lower resolution elsewhere.

GREAT IDEA!! :) I personally think that this is a really good idea, no joke!! Thank you! :)
