• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Problem with SU & MDLTweaker II

I made a simple object in SU and converted it to mdl using MCX. I then tried to use MDLtweaker II to add the "rotate to user" function. MDLtweak did not preview the object in its proper orientation when it read it in, and the resulting mdl exported from MDLtweak displayed upside down in FS9. I did some experimenting and found that MDLtweak would correctly preview any mdl that I'd exported from Gmax, but would not correctly preview any mdl that I'd made with SU and converted with MCX.

While we're on the subject, Arno, I was thinking that it would be nice to incorporate some of the MDLtweak options into MCX.

I have v2.0.266 of tweaker.

Hi,

MDLTweaker II has indeed be made to rely a lot on how GMax makes the MDL files. With ModelConverterX I have used more knowledge about how the formats work and it is more flexible. That probably means that ModelConverterX makes the MDL slightly different from GMax. That is not a problem for FS2004, it can read both. But MDLTweaker II does not like that. I am afraid I can't fix that easily.

About merging the features. I would love to, but in ModelConverterX I am using MakeMDL to make the MDL files. MDLTweaker is more a kind of post-processing to do things that MakeMDL can not do. So that makes it hard to merge them. But maybe in the future I can add some of the functions as post processing to ModelConverterX as well.

Thanks for the explaination, Arno. I prefer SU, but I can alway use Gmax for situations like this. :)
