• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Problem with texturing

hi,

well when I try exporting my model from gmax as a .MDL y get lots of errors such as:

-The mesh XX contains faces that are textured and untextured.

Then I get many of these:

-WARNING: Degenerate poly detected in file (GMaxExport) mesh (Mesh03)
WARNING: Face vertex 0 x=84.77309 y=245.7215 z=-130.6692
WARNING: Face vertex 1 x=84.77309 y=245.7215 z=-128.9358
WARNING: Face vertex 2 x=84.77309 y=245.7215 z=-130.3511
WARNING: Degenerate poly detected in file (GMaxExport) mesh (Mesh03)

I create a library with my terminal.MDL inside, compile the library to terminal.BGL
In FSX Planner I colocate the terminal in its position and compile to airport.BGL
I get the textures of the terminal and convert them to .dds
I get the scenery file with the terminal.bgl and the airport.bgl and the textures.dds and moved them to AddonScenery.
I start FSX and when I go to the airport, the terminal doesnt have any textures and there are some parts of it that are transparent.

please I need heelp!! thanks for reading
I will thanks forever the guy who helps me

Hi,

You should be able to ignore those warnings. Although it is better to make sure every polygon has a material assigned.

Are you sure you moved the texture to the right texture folder?

Ok, yes I think so. I moved the scenery folder and the textures to folder to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery.

Some parts of the terminal are transparent but others dont, but it doesnt have the correct textures.
Does scenery models needs textures.cfg for working??
Maybe the problem is because the textures arent 512x512 and 251x251??

Thanks for helping Arno

All textures must be perfect sizes: 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, etc.

...so yes, that is your problem!

Please be sure you put the textures in the "addon scenery\texture" folder, not in the scenery folder itself. No CFG file is needed for them. And as Bill said, 251x521 won't work, it needs to be 256x256.

oh thanks for the help Billy and Arno. And please if you know about a tutorial of texturing models could you send me an URL please??
And I´ve tried to change the size of the textures with ImageConverter Plus and Photoshop CS5 but without any result.

Thanks for all

Hi,

Maybe you can show us your MDL objects and textures? That might help to figure out what goes wrong.

Or just zip them and attach them on the forum if they are not too big.

ok here is my terminal.mdl model and textures in .psd format
( in the final file i convert the textures to .dds 256x256 and the model to bgl)
the textures dont appear in fsx :S so the model is black

I dont know were to put my file in the forum so i´ve upload it in megaupload

thanks for helping me.

Hi,

The MDL is referencing to the right textures names, so the problem must be somewhere in the textures. When you convert them to DDS do you make them DXT1 with mipmaps? FS does not support 24 bit textures.

Also double, or triple, check that you put them in the right folder. You would not be the first to put them in a folder called textures instead of texture.

i only convert the to .dds i dont understand what the DXT1 thing means could you please explain it to me?? and yes, i put the textures in the file called "texture"

and Golf-HotelDelta please please could you tell me what did you do with my files to make run correctly??? and what program did u use to place the terminal??

thanks

I created DXT5 textures and mipmaps with ImageTool, created a library using LibraryCreatorXML then placed the terminal with Instant Scenery.

do the textures need to have an alpha channel??? the library only contains the terminal really?
thanks a lot for the help I´m doing it right know, hope it works :)

guys it worked !!!! thanks a lot lot lot !!!! you´ve helped me more than anybody in this world, im the happiest man in universe !! :):)

thanks for all

Glad to hear you got it working. If the textures do not have transparency there is no need for an alpha channel. In that case you can use DXT1, else DXT5 is best indeed.
