• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Propellers in wrong place

Hello. I'm sure the answer to my problem is simple for you guys but I have spent a long time trying to cure it and am getting nowhere.

I have created an autogyro in FSDS and compiled it as an aeroplane because I run into other problems when I compile it as a helicopter.

The problem is that I have to offset the propeller in FSDS by about 3ft horizontally and 6 ins vertically in order for it to show in the correct place in FSX. When the engine is running, it is in the correct position, but when the engine stops, the prop jumps to the offset position.

Please help me resolve this. Thank you.

Hey Rob,

Thats a difficult call. I work in Gmax and havent seen that before. Never heard of this either. May I ask what you have it linked too? You probably have a nice, elaborate gimble assembly that pivots. It might be how that is coded that is causing the issue. For instance, if you have a torque/sideways angle effect built into it, perhaps that is acting odd when the engine is off.

Cool last name! You related to the son of the famous Gillespie are you?

Hi
Make a parent part(hierarchy node no geometry box checked) and child all the prop slow blurred ect to that.
For ease I just animate it as I would a normal prop for orientation, then just move/rotate the parent part to the correct location. If its still offsetting in sim then make sure you have all the axis at exactly the same location.

Propeller in wrong place

Hello
Thank you Lionheart and AU-MaV

I experimented with all your suggestions and finally cured the problem. I did re-align my axis which were slightly out. I made a new parent part on the same axis in the correct place and aligned the propeller still, slow and blurred to it. This was ok except that in FSX, the still and slow props were good and the blurred prop suddenly jumped backwards about 10 ft. Back in FSDS, I noticed that when I entered animation mode, the prop0 blurred was about 10 ft rearwards. I made a new prop0-blurred and animated it again. Now works correctly. Not sure, but I think the problem was linked to keyframes and a positioning error caused by rotation mode somewhere along the line.

Thanks for the help guys.

Incidentally, Lionheart, thanks for the comment on my surname. I,ve never been called cool before. However,if you are referring to Dizzy, my ancestors are Scottish.

Hey Rob,

There is a WWII Fighter Pilot (actually test Pilot) that wrote the famous poem High Flight. His last name was Gillespie.

One awesome poem. (I dont know if his name was Dizzy, you probably know more about it then me).

We also have an airport over in San Diego California that is well known, Gillespie airfield.

Nice name to have in the FS world...!

EDIT: Glad you got the animations working proper.

Bill

John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie was an American jazz trumpet player, bandleader, singer, and composer dubbed "the sound of surprise. As he was a black, that makes the likelyhood of Scottish ancestry somewhat remote... :rotfl:

Ahh I dunno Bill.On my fathers side of the family we have an African American,
looks like he came over in the mid 1800 for the gold rush :)
judging from the family's net wealth he didnt do to well :D

...hence my qualified "somewhat remote" with regards to the odds. I know that several of my ancestors from my late mother's side of the family were born on the wrong side of the sheets. They were from the great State of Missouri's rural poor. ;)

<---- original Ortis came over under capt. Jean Baptista Lefitte and ended up helping the colonials fight against the Britonians. Adopted into that family though, so not officially pirate blood.

...deleted.

thanks for your understanding.

We try so hard to do the right thing. When so powerful of a software group will not work with their own followers, its difficult.
