• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I need some help guys . I have the floatplane out of Picton New Zealand zooming round the sounds to different locations in fs9but when I transfered the bgl to FSX all the planes show but just vibrate from side to side and don't move (nor disappear thankfully ) . I have tried a few of the things posted but to no avail.double checked the afcads with the demo afx and afacd2 both programs show no fault in the afcads . I am using the HTAI 206 Stationair floatplane water amd am stumped as to what could be wrong. Below is a zip of the afcads, Taffic bgl and texture for the plane if anyone is up for the challenge?;)
cheers

The usual reason why AI floatplanes don't move is because they don't have wheel contact points at the correct position.

BTW, N145 looks peculiar:

PSC afcad

Thanks for the advice George .
The reason N145 looks strange is all the lines above are related to scenery that a friend did to complement the floatplane .Might go ahead and redo this afcad. could you try one of your floatplanes and see if it works or could you give me advice on how to adjust the contact points? need to read up on contact points.
cheers and thanks for looking at the project

Just to add a little extra to what George has said, I've been playing around with floatplanes in FSX and some which originate from FS9 will work as AI and some won't. For those that work look for on Avsim: beaver_floatplane_ai.zip by John Woodward and on Avsim: ai_float.zip from Holger Sandmann. The first is a Beaver floatplane for which there is also a range of repaints and the second is a package which contains three modified floatplanes. All these work in FSX and while they might not be what you want could be used to test your AI to prove it works. FS9 ports which don't work are the Wicked Wilga floatplane version and the Kolb Firefly floatplane version although both can be used as user aircraft.

Thanks for the reply Colin
Success put in the AI Beaver and all systems go.
Now I have to figure out how to adjust the 206 PSC so it will fly (it is the eal plane that they use!)
Thanks for eeryone's help !

are there any tutorials on adjusting contact points?

Hi Kiwi,

You may consider raising the pattern height at N144, or moving the runway further offshore ;)

Hi Tracy,

Glad the Beaver helped get thing moving. I don't know of any tutorials but the Holger Sandmann package which I posted previously provides some information about changing the parameters in the aircraft.cfg file but at the moment it is a 'try it and see' for changing other aircraft. This can be time consuming and, although I'm working on the Wilga from time to time, have yet to achieve a flyable AI configuration. No doubt, when I eventually do it, it will probably have no relevance to any other aircraft so I might have the same problems with the Kolb. At this stage I can give no guidance but maybe in the future a pattern may emerge which might give more general help.

Will give it a go tonight dont want to go bushwacking in the beaver after all that ;)
Darn the HTAI model not working in FSX but I am sure something will come up !
cheers guys

Hi Tracy,

One of my bookmarks is for the HTAI models site. I've looked through the range of aircraft but can't seem to see the one you're referring to, in fact there's not a floatplane in sight. Is it a derivative of one of their other models and, if so, which?

Colin

George,

As ever great pictures to illustrate your point!

Htai Model

Hi Colin
The model comes with Henry's payware Cessna pack. I will try and email him tonight (you can no longer register to join the forum)and see if he has any suggestions. Holger had one for the Caravan ,but that is all Icould find.
cheers

Hi Kiwi,

sorry I didn't responded to your email; I'm a bit swamped at the moment :o

Aside from the helpful comments from the others there are a couple of threads here that may be useful:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7567

Thanks to George's posts in the first listed thread I have been able to overcome my initial issues with effects of AI floatplanes in FSX and they now work beautifully. However, getting the contact points just right so that the effects trigger at the correct positions without the aircraft getting all bouncy takes a lot of trial-and-error. I even tried setting up a spreadsheet to compute the ideal positions for the "wheels" and effect triggers but that didn't give reliable results either. Something has changed in regards to the way contact points are utilized in FSX but I'm not exactly sure what or how.

In the end I got best results by combining all of the spray and wake effects into a single effects file that gets triggered by a single Class 4 point on each pontoon; that helped with getting rid of the tendency to bounce.

Then again, you probably don't want to go all that fancy with backward leaning aircraft and dynamic effects. That's why I'd suggest to start by copying the contact points of a working AI (e.g., the Beaver or my Waco) to your model and take it from there.

Good luck!

Cheers, Holger
