• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Arno,...

I thought the Texture converter (within the Special Tools of MCX) was able to handle psd files? I remember a discussion of such in the past at least. Maybe :o?

Hi Doug,

No, it does not. I think it is somewhere on my wishlist. But given that PSD is not really an open format, I am not sure how easy it will be to add support for it.

Thanks right!! :o I remember that now! ok,... I knew it was discussed at least. :)

Hi,

I just checked the adobe website and they provide quite a good format specification. So I think using that adding support should not be too hard. Especially since I don't need all layers, etc. Just the combined image is enough. I think I'll give it a try this weekend.

Ohh,.. Nice! I'll be looking forward to it then!

This is really not part of the subject matter but can be,....

On the MCX preview,.. how much is specular viewable?

Hi,

I got PSD files without compression working now, still working on the ones with compression.

About the specular map, it is should be shown as reflections, similar as FSX would do it. But if you feel it is not working correctly, let me know.

Support for PSD files will be in the next development release (should be online in about 30 minutes).

ok,... to say it's working,.. thats hard to say since, it doesn't look any differently with the default scenery or other models that don't have any specular maps on a model as of yet.

Unless I'm missing something within the options settings?

The Bump maps or Normal maps are working perfectly though.

Just adding the specular map is not enough, in the material settings you will have to set some values as well.

For example try to open the CargoPod that comes with FSX by default (SimObjects\Misc\CargoPod). You should see a nice reflection on that model.

Unfortunately,.. I'm not seeing any reflections or shine at all on the Cargopod.

Is the path to FSX set correctly? Else the environment map will not be found. You would get a warning in the event log in that case as well.

Arno,...

Just to clarify about the model which you had me load up in MCX: Screen shot of loaded and found textures:

That looks ok indeed. I will post a screenshot of how it looks here when I am back behind my flightsim pc.

Very well,... I'll be waiting on what I should be seeing. Also,... My Graphics Driver or Video Graphics is Nvidia GeForce 8400GS.

This is how it looks on my PC. The amount of reflection depends on the angle as well. You should be able to see a difference when you remove the specular texture and then restore it.

Arno,...

its very slight of a reflection,... after turning it as such. The fins darken and along the sides I see a slight reflection.

So I guess it works, :)

You should be able to see the horizon a bit. But I might have to tune the effect a bit more.

Nice addition to MCX Arno, so right now MCX work with DDS files, Bmp and Psd, ?

Jpeg, png, tiff, tga, rgb, dds, psd, bmp and extended bmp. That's all the supported formats for reading. For writing it is jpeg, png, bmp, dds, extended bmp and rgb.
