• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Put on hold...

Well, I knew it was too good to true. After all of the progress I have made, I'm having to put my projects on hold for a bit. It seems my monitor has decided to crap out on me and until I can afford a new one, I'm screwed. For some reason, it simply goes black. The thing is still on and the PC still runs fine, you just can't see anything. It used to be that it would do it a few times and settle down, but now it will come on for a few seconds and out goes the screen. I suppose I could do this on my laptop, but it doesn't really handle Max well at all. It's only a Dual Core 1.73 Gg...

Hopefully this won't be too long and I'll be up and running...

Are you sure it's the monitor and not just a driver issue?

I'm getting screen random freezes on my system - and not only when running gmax/fsds/ac3d/Poser/etc... it's happened just browsing. It seems that somewhere along the line something with the ATI driver gets messed up and <poof>. Sometimes it recovers, other times I have to reboot.

It'll go trouble free for days, then <poof>

It could also be your graphics card. Make sure the graphics card is tight in its socket.

See if you can test the monitor on a friends computer.

Also, there are alot of spare parts floating around that people sell. For instance, check a second hand store, like Savers or Goodwill, etc, and see if they have any monitors and things. Usually an old tube monitor will sell for $10.00 to $20.00. Plug it in there and make sure its working before buying it.

Ebay can adjust to your nearest location and you can see who is selling monitors online by your home. Then you can actually drive over and buy it or at least see it.

Same with graphics cards. People will get a new one and sell the old one.

This is an option for you if funds are tight... (Ive been there many times.. I learned to pick up an 'auxilary' part or system when they cross my path... Sometimes they end up going in a family members computer or to a friend, but they get used).

I unplugged it last night but left the computer on and after a few false starts it seems to be staying on, but I wouldn't bet for how long. I googled the problem and came up with a bunch of replies that my brand (Gateway) has a bit of a problem with one of the capacitors going out. I do have my old 2.4 Gg computer so I'll try that or I'll just hook it up to this laptop and see how that works.

Here's hoping for the best...

Kevin

P.S. I will NEVER buy another Gateway computer again...

It's a shame you don't live nearby. I have a baker's dozen (13) 19" CRT monitors in the other room waiting for a good home...

Funny thing about that...

I used to live in Calumet City as a kid, and the wife and I lived in Chicago for six years. :)

It's working for now and I even got a bit of work done this morning, but I think I'll start saving my pennies for a new one. In fact, the whole rig is getting a bit long in the tooth, so maybe I should just buy a new one.

I pulled the video card out and it was too hot to touch, but even with the standard connection it still blacked out. I tried my old computer, but something is wrong with it and it won't boot (never had a problem it before ). I'm pretty sure I'm screwed
