• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Question about Scenery Poly - Exclude All

When I use Scenery polygon with Exclude All, will the polygon follow the ground contour or will it flatten the ground?

The scenery polygon will not create a flatten unless "flatten" is set to true, and any exclusions must be set to true in the exclusions section of the property grid. Since you mention "Exclude All", it would seem that you are talking about the exclusion rectangle instead of the scenery polygon.

I used Exclude TIN to remove some artificially placed outcropping of rocks, that do not exist IRL, at the location of a runway approach lighting strobe light. I logically used the flatten property but found that this flattened the area at sea level (my terrain is about 42 ft MSL at this location) resulting in a well with a strobe light stuck in the bottom of the hole. I turned off flatten and the outcropping remained removed and the remaining terrain was where I wanted. I thought this interesting but haven't taken the time to figure out how to set the elevation of the flatten. I don't recall there being a property for this.

I have used the scenery poly's Exclude TIN to exclude trees, bushes and photogrammetry. Altitude is the first item on the list of attributes.

Indeed, I see that but didn't test to see if the value was MSL or AGL. So MSL it is. Thanks.
I have a group of trees near a runway threshold that do not exist IRL. I've tried to use Exclude TIN to rid of them but that didn't work. I had to apply a grass apron with vegetation excluded.

Just trying to understand - what is TIN?

It isn't obvious. Triangular Irregular Network and I don't know what that means either LOL. However, the TIN stuff is fake scenery added by some Asobo algorithm to add visual glitz IMHO. The definition in the SDK documentation says it takes points (vertices) and triangulates between them to create triangles that represent terrain. However, it also creates some really funky looking stuff. It has nothing to do with vegetation so I hope art209 is able to elaborate on that point.
