• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

RAZBAM xtomdl GUI tool

RAZBAM is about to release a xtomdl GUI tool, since i don´t find a
place to post it in your forums, i decided to contact you and let
you decide where is the pertinent forum. This tool is payware , here is a description of it:

XtoMdl GUI
Graphic Interface for the XtoMdl tool
Microsoft´s FSX sdk provided developers with all the tools needed
for scenery and/or aircraft creation for Flight Simulator X, but
they were designed for the intermediate up to the expert
coder and not for the casual (in most cases) freeware developer who
creates aircraft as a hobby. Even as in the FSX SDK there are Gmax
plug ins tools(export tools)which are easy to use, most if not all
3DSMAX users stumble with the fact that the export process from a .X
file into a full animated .mdl using the XtoMdl tool is a rather
complex process for those without basic coding knowledge.
XtoMdlGUI solves this just by a single installation, all you have to
do ONCE is to fill the required fields needed for creating the
command:

a. XtoMdl.exe Path:
This field tells the program where the XtoMdl.exe file is located.
If the field reads <empty>, it means that it has not been set. To
set the field click the button at the right, an Open File dialog
window will appear and you will be able to search for the file.
Note: The dialog will specifically search for the XtoMdl.exe file,
if the tool has been renamed the dialog will not find it.

b. Animation Dictionary Path:
This field tells the program where to find the model definition file
that is to be used for animations. By default the filename is
modeldef.xml. If the field reads <empty>, it means that it has not
been set. To set the field click the button at the right, an Open
File dialog window will appear and you will be able to search for
the file.

The program won't create the XtoMdl command as long as any of these
fields read <empty> (meaning that they are not set).

1. You must input the Path and Filename of your model .X file. You
can either type the full path in the textbox or click on the button
at the right to search for it. If this field is blank, the compile
command won't be generated.

2. You need to set the compilers switches that you want to use:
/KEEP
/BMP2DDS
/XMLSAMPLE
/XANIM
/OUT
3. You are ready to click the button Compile. It will generate a
command string that will be sent to the XtoMdl.exe tool. When the
tool has run, the program will determine whether the conversion was
successful or not.

The product is one purchase only, no license needed for either freeware or pay ware developers.
