• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Recap on Downloading SBuilder X

IIRC, during its first run, SBuilderX requires one to assign a Tile Server from which to download a background ...via:

SBuilderX Menu > Edit > Tile Servers ...

Pick the desired Tile server from the list and check the checkbox to verify the intended choice, then click [OK]

Now:

SBuilderX Menu > View > check: Show Background F1

The SBuilderX work-space should now populate with imagery tiles. :wizard:

Alright, Seemed to work! Thanks a lot! Now I have to remember how to mask it and place it in FSX.

Terrain Design

sendfile.php

File Description:
Terrain Design for Flight Simulator X

This simple illustrated document explains the basic concepts in Flight Simulator X terrain, and how to change them using SBuilder for FS X. Make new water bodies, roads, vehicle traffic, airport flattens, remove autogen, add more detail - anybody can do it easily and quickly.
My most sincere apologies - I am unable, for lack of free time, to offer support of any kind. For questions or problems, please post in the Avsim scenery design forum.

Make photo-real ground textures

File Description:
It is very easy to create your very own high-resolution, custom (photo-real) ground textures. This document explains the concepts and techniques and illustrates the use of SBuilderX with which you can quickly and easily download aerial images and make this type of scenery. So, why hesitate? Make Flight Simulator scenery as real as it gets! Very sorry - no support of any kind is offered. Please do not write. For any questions, please post in the Avsim Scenery Design Forum.

Using the Autogen Annotator

sendfile.php

File Description:
The Autogen Annotator is a powerful tool for modifying the autogen of default ground textures or adding autogen to custom (photo-real) ground. This document illustrates the use of the tool, and includes a pictorial guide to all autogen object types. Very sorry - no support of any kind is offered. Please do not write. For any questions, please post in the Avsim Scenery Design Forum.

My "show aircraft" and all other selections in the "view" menu are greyed out. I have FSX up and the aircraft at the desired location, but I cannot do anything else from there, all selections are greyed out.

yes, I did manage to get the options to show up, but now when I choose show background, I get nothing but a white screen with a crosshair showing my aircraft position, nothing else. Do I have to place my aircraft files somewhere else? This is not a current airport but a homebrew one, it won't be available on google earth or anywhere.

Hi Tom:

Did you select and apply a choice of Satellite or Map imagery tileserver in SBuilderX ?

One then uses the magnifying glass tool to zoom in on areas of interest, allowing some time at each zoom level for tiles to fill in.

IIRC, a couple of listed SBuilder tileservers are old and no longer work.

Google_api3_Satellite and ArcGIS World Imagery are the best photos followed by MS VirtualEarthSatellite (now called BING).

IIUC, your airport is in the Bermuda Triangle and may not have local imagery, so you may need to use Open Street Map or another graphic based map as background

If you post the Lat / Lon / Alt of the ADE airport Reference Point (midpoint of the RWY), I'll see what SBuilder can use as tileserver for that area.

Also, what mountain IRL in the SW of USA were you wanting to use at one time as a template for your project's mountain ?

I saw a thread on Google where you mentioned that, and I assumed it may have had to do with this project, but I cannot locate the thread anymore.

The reason I ask, is I may be able to use GIS software to convert a point-based terrain mesh to a triangle-based terrain mesh that you can process via SBuilder or MCX into a CVX Vector sloped flatten BGL.

I have SbuilderX 3.15 installed and I have two problems.

1. With FSX-Steam, if I connect via FSUIPC, it becomes slow and unusable. I didn't have this problem with FSX (same machine, same Windows, same everything).

2. The tile server doesn't seem to be updating anymore, this is the biggest problem, because I used to capture an area and transport it to ADEX. On Google Maps, the area is much more up-to-date, but the tile server is a few years out of date.

2A. Is there an update for the tile server?

2B. Is there any way to copy from Google Maps to ADE? The problem is the coordinates, how do I get them the way SBX does.

Hi Alexandre:

Do you mean the SBuilderX Tile downloader- or FSX-Steam itself- ...becomes slow and unusable ?

IIRC, Dick Ludowise stated that the tile downloader module for SBuilderX 3.15 Google Satellite imagery would not need to be updated.

Have you looked at the SBuilderX 3.15 tile downloader selection list, and tested other servers ?

2A. Is there an update for the tile server?
See my reply immediately above.

2B. Is there any way to copy from Google Maps to ADE? The problem is the coordinates, how do I get them the way SBX does.

There is a few utilities that may still be able to do this, but Google tries to shut them down, so it likely is best done via another method.

I would use Google Earth Desktop Edition if for any reason the imagery version displayed in SBuilderX 3.15 background map was older.

Alternatively one can use SASPlanet or a GIS application such as QGIS or Global Mapper to access imagery, and save it to disk.

Be aware that ADE is limited as to the memory address space it can allocate to Background images, so one must swap between images.

And in ADE, each Background image is limited to a maximum in size, so using a JPG file format that uses compression is advisable.

PS: What numeric version of FS are you currently developing for ?

Hi GaryGB,

About first item, SbuilderX 3.15 (the program) goes to very very very slow and unusable if FSX-Steam opened (very useful for correct live the scenery with aircraft fsuipc connect).

About second, i´ve cleaned tiles cache manually and my trouble goes off.

About 2B, im really cannot know how copy a google earth desktop image to ADE, because the coordinates, and positioning manually sometimes goes wrong.
