• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

Hi there,

this issue is sooooooooo annoying and I hope you can help me solving it. My engine starters seem to be too powerful. When activating the starters, the rpm quickly rises to about 1500 r.p.m. sometimes causing the aircraft to flip and turn and tumble and... crash.
Is there a way to reduce the starting rpm to lets say 500?

Do you mean idle rpm? In this case there are a couple parameters to play with: the propeller_MOI, the idle_rpm_friction_scalar, and the idle_rpm_mechanical_efficiency_scalar in the aircraft.cfg. You can adjust mechanical efficiency and friction within the air file too.
And there is still the possibility to manipulate the min_throttle_limit, as Bill described in this forum (if I remember correctly).

At 0 throttle the engine idles at ~500 rpm which is fine because you need to advance the throttle a bit to keep a normal idling speed of 1000 rpm.

But when the starter is engaged the rpm quickly peaks up to 1500 producing a massive MOI. I found the entry "normalized_starter_torque" in the aircraft.cfg which doesn't seem to have any effect at all.

I will try your tips! I just hope that this doesn't affect the well-balanced power setting of my engines ;)

First update:
I changed the propeller_moi to 2 instead of 14.1 with the effect that the aircraft doesn't jump anymore! Very good.
Unfortunately, the starting rpm still doesn't make sense - the same ~1500 rpm. How can I lower it?

FSX saves the throttle position in the saved senerio,which may not be at zero when you first start up the sim unless you move the throttle back and forth to reset it.I hate hot starts with no brakes on ;)
Also play with the normalized_starter_torque= in the aircraft.cfg
to high a number and the engine will spin the prop into the next year,to little and it wont start using the normal startup toggle.
its a balance game with the above and the prop moi
more moi slower to start and run down and a larger effect on the flight model
less moi the op happens.As a rule of the thumb what I do is time some vids of engine shutdown of similar real world aircraft/engine the adjust the prop moi till the blades stop in aprox same time,then alter the normalized_starter_torque= till the engine wont start then up it a tad.Not very tech but it works 92.356% of the time :D
