• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Render text or image in game?

Hi,

I am wondering how can i render text or image on the simworld? Is it possible to put or activate or deactivate using standard module?

funny how nobody knows
Do you mean nobody knows to read the forum rules before posting? It is literally at the top of the page.

Because there is information about this all over the internet. What do you think people have been doing, since August 2020, besides trying to render text or images in the sim world? In fact, the question is too broad. What, in light of all that has been learned since 9/2020, do you want to do differently? If you watch this entire forum, we can see that PikoSim is also posting questions about WASM, which is more specific and also redundant. To me, it seems like the SDK has a great deal of information that he is unaware of.

I myself store several links in this browser to threads on this forum about various techniques, that I don't post here, because this is not a thread about techniques, this is a thread about finding techniques and future searchers of techniques would be dragged into this black hole from those links. When a searcher gets to the black hole, every link there is a collection of blue letters that leads to other threads asking the same question. Some of those links even lead in circles ("Oh, you are searching? Here, let me post up this list of a bunch of other threads of people searching this same subject"). None of them say, "ME ME, I AM THE LINK THAT GIVES YOU THE ANSWERS YOU SEEK." Ultimately, you spend hours searching the same FSDeveloper provided links, you could get from Google. It's quite maddening for a short attention spanner, like me.

Please, people that want to help, running the search function, on someone else's behalf and then posting those links, adds confusion and beyond that, risks insulting the original poster, by implying they are incapable, or unwilling to do their own legwork.

So we want to avoid stacking links onto a thread that says, "how do I get an image into MSFS 2020," if at all possible.

To solve the conundrum, someone can "contribute." This starts with actual research, typing a question into the search, reading many posts and eventually, if all goes well, this person will develop a "process." Presumably they will test this process and if it works, that's probably the end of it, we'd never know about it. However, if the process does not work, it is still "original."

If someone starts a thread with a request and demonstrates that they've read the rules, that they've invested some effort and developed a process that does not work, by describing all of this, that is something the rest of us can work with. When someone posts a question about how to perform a specific, complex process, without providing anything else, there is little chance for anyone, beyond the OP, to benefit from the conversation and it rarely gets replied.

Also, the link to the picture in your sig is broken. It has occurred to me this is intentional.

First and foremost,
I said "funny how nobody knows" because I posted more or less the same question months ago and got no reply, and this guy just replied to my thread asking if I got a clue, and still no answer to this day
If you have an answer to help a new developer get into this world, then fine, tell him how to ask a question properly and provide him at least with some answer.
Back to the topic, I turned google upside down, nobody mentions how to render texts or images in the outside world, everything is about aircraft panels, I posted questions all over the known forums and people just tell me they don't know and keep asking me If I get an answer yet.
so if you can help us with those "valuable links" you seem to hold, then we will be more than thankful
It's not wrong to forget about rules you read back in 2017 and ask a simple question
At the end of the day, we are all in the same team, the team of "research" and "the seeking of knowledge", we're all here to learn and to share!

If you want to render text, or images in the sim, you can easily start with the "SimpleScenery" sample package that is included in the SDK. You'll want to follow the example precisely, except to substitute a 3d model of the text you wish to display, or a 2d plane onto which you've applied an image. MSFS also allows animated images and this is discussed in the SDK. There is even the possibility of live, externally updating HTML driven images and video, I saw a website where a guy had made an cockpit instrument into a video game. I did not save this link.
so if you can help us with those "valuable links" you seem to hold, then we will be more than thankful
If this generous offer is directed at me, you've misunderstood my message. I hope you can see that the search term, "SimpleScenery," would come up with many results and we've just explored a valid method of getting text and images into the sim. "Techniques," are variations and to be honest, I've not yet seen any hard and fast way to do anything in the sim. For me, at least, it takes time patience and test cycles, many, many test cycles to get something right, even after I follow the advice on someone's link.

As to the topic at hand, it appears that PikoSim is seeking something fairly specific, as yet unspecified. Possibly something like this:

but so far, only he knows.

Ok, we have very different ideas about right and wrong and how to go about accomplishing things. There are many people that use this site as a resource, different educations, languages, cultures, any time we have a conversation, you can bet there are hundreds of silent eyes, reading along. "Rules," are something we can force ourselves to endure, to make things equally easy for everyone, if slightly less easy for ourselves and that seems like a really good way to help others learn.

I'm sorry for this misunderstanding
About the rendering: yes, 3d models or 2 planes can in fact help rendering "preprogrammed renders( existing textures)"
This can be a solution for the starter of this thread, and I hope it is.
My request is different, I'm interested in dynamic live changing renders just like gauges screens, but with simobjects ( this is possible in P3D through PDK, many have used it to render airport announcement screens)
I was wondering if I can use the WASM rendering capabilities to render textures in real time, in the outside world, independent from the user's aircraft, do you happen to have crossed a topic like this one ? Because I really tried but no clue !
But still, animations can switch between different textures Wich can be a solution but not a sustainable one since I'd have to make many models.
