• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Is it possible to replace multiple selected vegetation rectangles to an other kind of vegetation i want? i have thousands of trees that shouldn't be conifers so i have to replace them for Poplars... do i have to draw again more than 1000 vegetation rectangles?

Hello:

In theory, after making a backup of the original *.AGN files for your project area (by ex: adding copies to a *.ZIP or *.RAR file), you could then de-compile the *.AGN file(s) for your project area, and could open copies of the resulting ex: *.TXT or *.XML format output files in a text editor (preferably one such as "NotePad++" which can properly edit XML).

Next, you could use Search and Replace to find the current undesired vegetation GUID, and substitute the actual vegetation GUID you wish to use for the area of your scenery project.

Alternatively, you may be able to simply change the displayed autogen for the area of your scenery project by changing the Region identifier attribute (again via an edit of GUID ?) within the decompiled edited *.AGN file.

After you save your edits, you would re-compile and test the replacement *.AGN file(s) by replacing the originals within the local paired \Texture folder for the area of your scenery project (do not put 'duplicate' file name *.AGNs into the same \Texture folder ...or FSX may crash !).

I don't presently have a tutorial available to post or link to for this process, but with some study of the documentation for FSX Autogen and a number of threads here at FSDeveloper, you should be able to utilize the existing vector offset coordinates for placement of your autogen vegetation "footprints" or Reference Points (aka "RefPoints") in your present *.AGN annotation file(s) without having to start over in FSX Autogen SDK Annotator.

Perhaps you might be able to get an initial grasp of the Autogen annotation process from these threads:

Hope this helps ! :)

What Gary said, but if you can live with replacing your thousands of conifers with one poplar type you can select them all in the annotator, then select the poplar type of choice in the autogen configuration editor (tb Poplar All?) and hit the "set GUID" button on the Control strip. That will change them all. The problem in doing that is you won't see much variety, the grouping "tb Poplar All (except baby)" will give you some variation on sizes but you'll basically see one tree type over thousands of virtual acres which probably won't look good.

If you want to mix in some cottonwoods or elms then as Gary said, decompile your autogen with Arno's AGN tools, replace GUIDs on a text level, and recompile. You could for example replace hemlocks with poplars, douglas firs with cottonwoods, larch with elms, etc. which would give you more variety. You can search out GUIDs for finding/replacing in AutogenDescriptions.xml located in the "Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Autogen SDK\Autogen source xml" folder or you can right click grouping IDs in the autogen configuration editor and choose "copy", then paste them to Notepad to read what the GUID of a particular grouping is.

In either case MAKE BACKUPS of your autogen before fiddling (also as Gary said)!
