• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Blender Replacement of Simplygon

Hello Everybody,
After a little gap in use of Blender, I exported a model to MSFS2024 and I face of Simplygon negative to compile.
Now i ´m stopped to devellop due this software that microsoft hesitate to put free or not.
Today, if exist, is very expensive the license to us.
In the "state of art" of this problem, which is the better substitute of this software for blender/msfs2024/sdk user?
Best regards.

ModelConverterX can make adequate LODs. Use quadratic based error. From LOD 40, consider reloading to Blender to eliminate small details before you create smaller LODs.
You could also try InstaLOD The pioneer license is free if your yearly business income is less than $100000. This is the studio version. They may have a Blender addon version, but that is for the paid licensing I believe.

I suggest first trying the LOD Creator in Arno's ModelConverterX (aka "MCX").

Other options have been discussed at FSDEV forum (both freeware and payware).

If you intend to make payware, entry level requirements for quality and performance by consumers in the addon market are likely going to make demands of MSFS developers.

That may involve making LODs, but performance can also be achieved by subdividing content via SimPropContainers.

Personally, for MSFS 2024, I would prefer making fewer LODs that are scaled (but still recognizably shaped), while emphasizing greater use of SimPropContainers.

Thanks to Dick and Gary, I ´ll try these suggestions.
One things to consider, is that my models are too simples, topographic models, as montains and caves, that doesn´t need, much lods. I think that is only one lod, or lod_0.
I´ll try and any advise and I´ll return with my friends here.
Best.
