• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Road Vectors

Hi,

I've been working on my KBHM 1970 airport project. In my ADE project, I included the roads and highways vectors around the airport and some residential areas where I lived. But when I enabled my Alabama Scenery or load photo sceneries from SbuilderX,, those road vectors are covered up and replaced with the photo scenery. That's the problem with using a current or later image. So, while I'm waiting to get the KBHM 1970 image re-projected, is there any way to make the road vectors in ADE show up on top of the photo scenery?

Hi Ken:

Are you wanting the FSX default land class textures used on CVX vector Roads to 'show through on top' of your custom photo-real imagery layer, ...instead of using locally-matched / cloned sections of the custom photo-real imagery blended / merged into the custom photo-real imagery itself to more accurately represent Roads ? :scratchch

If so, that can be done via the 8-Bit TIFF Blend Mask source file for your custom photo-real imagery BGL. ;)

Hi Gary,
Yes, just for the time being. The photo images I'm using now, or the ones used from SbuilderX, do not represent the existence of many of the roads in 1970. And many of the roads in those images did not exist then, and the one that did exist in 1970 do not exist now because everything has been reconstructed around the airport. The streets 37th Av, and the streets around where I used to live does not exist in the later photos. The airport had bought out all of that and looks nothing like it did in 1970. So, that's why I wanted to make my ADE CVX road vectors show on top for the time being, until I can get that KBHM 1970 photo image installed. But it hasn't worked out that way.

That's sort of what I was thinking. From my understanding, I would paint black whatever I did not want to show in FSX. I've done that blend mask and water mask thing about a week or so ago, but what ever I painted black, the default FSX road vectors and ground textures are what shows through, rather than my ADE CVX road vectors I've created from ADE. And too, I would not be able to use photo images from SbuilderX to paint black where I want the vectors to show through because I have no way of knowing precisely where that road existed, and would have to use the old KBHM 1970 image to do that. But since it's not re-projected correctly, I guess that would not work. I not sure just how to go about doing that.

Hi Ken:

You must Exclude any underlying CVX vector scenery in order to Replace it with your own CVX vector scenery.

Please review the procedures for Excluding default terrain cited by Luis Feliz-Tirado here:

File Description:
Terrain Design for Flight Simulator X

This simple illustrated document explains the basic concepts in Flight Simulator X terrain, and how to change them using SBuilder for FS X. Make new water bodies, roads, vehicle traffic, airport flattens, remove autogen, add more detail - anybody can do it easily and quickly.
My most sincere apologies - I am unable, for lack of free time, to offer support of any kind. For questions or problems, please post in the Avsim scenery design forum.

NOTE: The procedures for this project may be easier if one uses multiple layers of imagery when creating CVX vectors.

ADE and SBuilderX cannot display scenery layers with transparency; perhaps another development tool is needed. :scratchch

I have previously linked you to a TOPO image of 1970's KBHM that can be loaded into SBuilderX as a background.

Have you tried loading it into SBuilderX yet ?

Be certain to do this in SBuilderX if working with CVX vector scenery objects ...to save any vector source data: ;)

1.) SBuilderX Menu > File > Properties > {General} tab > assign a project name

2.) Save that project to a *.SBP file using that same project name as above

3.) Export a SBuilderX Exchange Format file with a *.SBX file extension using that same project file name as above

NOTE: This saves the CVX vector data in a manner comparable to that required in ADE (by using a *.AD4 project file).

The *.SBX ensures you can re-load existing CVX vector objects, and modify or move them ...as needed in the future

Then, any existing CVX vector objects you created using a TOPO background can be safely modified or moved later on when a properly rectified 1970 B+W KBHM image is made available for use as a background in SBuilderX. :pushpin:

Again, efforts are ongoing as my time (and patience) permits, to get you a properly rectified 1970 B+W KBHM image.
