I've reached the next milestone - getting the rotor_blurred to be transparent.....
Now, I've made a simple, thin cylinder with the right diameter, and I've assigned the 'prop_spinning' texture (taken from Bill's excellent tutorial on FSX modelling - FSX Laird Air Racer 003) to the object. I think I've set the gmax Materials Editor correctly - following the tutorial example specification - and it looks O.K. in gmax.
The next step, with PhotoShop, was to produce a *PSD file, from the original *BMP file, with a simple, all black Alpha channel. But, when I open this in ImageTool, the Alpha channel doesn't show. I've set the image format to DXT-3 and produced mip-maps, but the Alpha channel doesn't appear to be recognised:

As you might guess, when I fire up FSX, the rotor_blurred is not transparent.
Any suggestions gratefully received, as usual!
Cheers - Dai (EGFE).
Edit...... Well, now I know a bit more about Alpha channels! And, of course, a completely black Alpha channel will make the associated object transparent - so, I 'borrowed' the relevant propellor Alpha from the default DC3's Texture file. And, instead of using ImageTool for producing the prop_blurred DDS image, after adding the Alpha in PhotoShop (ImageTool didn't like that, anyway!), I used PhotoShop's DDS output (Save-As) directly. Placed this in the Texture file for the model, and all is well - until the next time, anyway.......
