    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Howdy All!

Well I finally got my runway poly to show up and it's looking good, but how do I increase the distance that the runway lines can be seen?

Hi,

Are they part of the texture or separate polygons? From the screenshot it looks they are in the texture, making them as polygons would probably increase the visibility.

Else you could try to edit the mipmaps of the texture as well, but I don't expect that to really help.

But the markings, are they polygons on top of the runway polygon?

Ok, then I would expect them to be visible better. Or is it one big polygon and a texture with an alpha channel you are using?

But is each line of the markings a separate polygon or not?

Runway poly

Hi all,

I wonder if someone could help me. I want to create a runway poly. I have read Bill Womack's article and understand the process and I can create and texture a ploygon in gmax. I use Arno's ModelConverterX and export the compiled bgl into the sim.

My problem is that although I can see the texture in GMAX I cannot see it in ModelConverterx. I have checked the correct paths in Model ConverterX to ensure they are mapped to where the texture is and the texture is placed in teh appropriate texture folder. The poly shows up in the sim minus the texture. I am sure I am missing something simple - anyone any ideas? I attach some screen shots

Hi Aron.

I'm sorry, no the marking are on one poly. Here is an image on how I have layerd my runway. Is it better to put the marking on separate polys?

Hi,

If you use separate polygons, I think they will be less blurry in the distance. Now you see the low mipmaps, where the markings are probably gone because they are less than one pixel.

Arno, I tried creating the number and lines on separate polygons as you suggested and the lines and numbers where still blurry in the distance.

So I tried saving the textures with out mips and that did the job:D Anyways thank you for the help!
