• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

SAMM questions

Hi all, new to the forum and looking for advice.

I'll try to consolodate two issues into one thread.

I have FSX Gold.

I used SAMM to create five static aircraft scenery. Two out of five static planes load into the Instant Scenery drop down. All five have scenery and texture folders within their respective aircraft folder. All five have loaded into the FSX Scenery Library. All five planes came from MAIW Andrews package. Any suggestions as to why some would load into IS and others would not?

Second issue. I have tried to develope static planes from FSX with SAMM. It keeps requiering FSX SDK and/or modeldef.xml files. I cannot find them. I have read and re-read the manual regarding this issue and I am clearly not understanding something. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

By "drop down", I assume you mean you could see them in your scenery. As for the others, did they convert properly? Were there any error messages. Could you see the converted aircraft in the viewer? Given there we're dealing with two different applications from two different sources, the first step is to isolate which one is at fault.

There are known issues with IS's handling of SAMM-generated static models. Allegedly, they were fixed in version IS2.) I don't use IS, so I can't be much help. Perhaps others will jump-in. You might also scan this forum looking for IS issues.

The SDK is the system development kit. FSX Gold is advertised as including the SDK - but it must be installed separately. Once its installed, you'll know where it is. The manual tells you where to find modeldef.xml , which is in the SDK. (Please refer to the note at the top of the INSTALLING, EXECUTING and UNINSTALLING SAMM section of the manual.)

Hi Don,

The drop down that I am referring to is in the IS. It allows you to pick from the different libraries or objects. Two of the five that I created are in the drop down but the other three are not. They are all static planes that I converted out of the MIAW Andrews package.

Thanks for the advice SDK. Because I have FSX Gold I thought that I had it available to me. I will download it.

Thanks,

Ken

Sorry, no, I saw no error messages. They uploaded into the FSX scenery/addon scenery and scenery library as well. It is very puzzling as to why they do not appear in IS.

The SDK should be in FSX Gold. But, it will have to be INSTALLED separately.

Don,

I found it on the FSX disk. I am not certain what you mean by "installed separatley."

Do I copy the folder? If so, where do I put it? I hate to pester you with what are pretty basic questions but I am sure anxious to use this tool. It sure makes the hobby exciting and "challenging"!

The FSX SDK alters the system registry, so there must be an installer. Is there a setup.exe or a SDK.exe file insight?

I can't speak to FSX Gold, but with the earlier releases of FSX, the SDK was a separate application that wasinstalled with the FSX installer. If no setuip file and if there's nothing in the documentation, I suggest you run the FSX installer and see if there's an option to install the SDK - but don't proceed so far as to start to re-install FSX.

If anyone else knows for sure, please jump in.

Don

I began to run the installer and it did begin to install FSX. I saw nothing for the SDK.

I opened the disk and found it in the files. I don't recall if it had it's one exe. file. I will check later today.
